1st Valve Adjustment - Brampton ON

Can anyone recommend a dealer or bike shop within a reasonable distance that can do the valve adjustment for me. Just don't know of a shop that I would trust and not sure if it's beyond my capabilities to do such a job.

I have done all my own maintenance but didnt want to tackle the valve thing. I priced around and had estimates anywhere from $200 up to $800.

I had mine done at the Yamaha/Honda dealer in Wingham Ontario (Lynn Hoy Enterprise). Its a family owned business. The mechanic is well seasoned and one of the owners. Price was very reasonable (around $200) and included a carb sync. Bike runs great.

I did mine last fall at 70,000 km. 2 valves were out slightly. I know its a bit of a ride from where you are but it is something to consider. Good luck. JR

I was checking with the local dealer the other day for a valve adjustment and he figured it was a 6hr job. The flat rate for top gasket replacement was 3.2hrs.

3 hrs labour for mine. He had done others before so knew the routine. He also re used my cover gaskets as they were in good shape.

I had one shop give an estimate for 8 hrs. That seemed excessive. It was a large shop with lots of overhead.

If you want to ride down to the states come to Pioneer Motorsports in Chaffee NY which is about 45 minutes from the Peace Bridge. Ventureriders get a discount, and Pioneer's service department is honest and reputable. Their work is top notch.

 

 

Once again what is the mileage on the bike?? Chances are unless the bike is very hard starting and runs like crap you really do not need a valve adjustment. Mother Yammy wants to make money off of unnecessary preventative maintenance...

I would get them checked. It may not need it and many don't but I know of many others that needed it. There is simply no way to tell without checking them.

That's equivalent to around 30,000 miles US which is hardly broken in yet! I'm thinking you don't need it...

I took around 8 hours the first time I adjusted mine just recently, including disassembly and reassembly. If a dealer says they can do it in a few hours, I wouldn't trust that it will be very thorough. To really do a good job at getting the valves within spec, not just sort of on the edge one way or the other, takes time. I'm glad I did it, otherwise it wouldn't have been done well guarunteed.
