Couple of the members here (well, maybe more than a couple) who've ridden with me have commented about me liking to ride fast.

Well, I hooked up with a couple local Wing riders yesterday. Along with them was a guy on a sweet Valkyrie, another on a customized and souped up Triumph with the 2300 engine, and a sport bike rider (and this guy was a LEO)

Those who know this area will be able to relate ... Agassiz to Spences Bridge ... I have never made this run so fast in my entire life ... in fact, I would never dream of travelling so fast. The two Wingers were in the lead with the others behind me at the beginning (except for the sport bike guy who blew past us so fast he was a blur). 70 km/h corners at 120+ ... scrapin the pegs!!! YIKES!! Long straights ... pushin 180km/h and up ... and I was lagging behind as the others had passed already.

WAY TOO FAST FOR ME! Doubt I'll be riding with those guys again iof that's their normal.

Wish I'd gotten a pic of the Triumph ... that was one cool looking ride ... unfortunately the rider had to turn back for home after a while ... he had a custom throttle mapping device that was causing him some problems ... thing wouldn't drop below 3000 rpm!

that's cruising at over 100mph those guys deserve a big ticket. Most of us push the limits by 10-15mph but when you are running the roads at three digits you are a danger to yourself as well as others

Ah, pay no attention to the man from Florida, where he has to ride slow, because he is dodging blue-haired old ladies.

SilvrT, that is some good ridin'. Now...just keep up that pace for 20 hours a day, for 11 days.:cool10:

There are those who ride that think they can out do anyone.. Those are the ones we find wrapped around a tree or becoming a custom hood ornament on the hood of the on coming vehicle..

My speedometer on my trusty rsv is off by almost 10mph , so when it says 80 I am goin 70. I found this out riding with a group who said I was drivin like a grandpa. I noticed it took extra time going a distance and used a gps to confirm. Just remember that as you increase speed the laws of physics increase exponentially. if you increase your speed 10mph , your stopping distance increases about 1.75% , it takes less steering input to move the same distance at higher speeds and all that equates to less room for error. Not passing judgement but I used to drive fast, now I just drive to get there.

Like I said, it was way too fast for me ... but I did it.

For the most part, I will ride 10-20 km/h over the limit on a highway and that also depends on the flow of the traffic... meaning, if the limit is 100 km/h and the traffic is doing 130, then I will be doing 130.

I also do not like following people (cages) so if I'm comfortable at 120 and come up behind a cage doing 115, I will pass them. I like the open road ahead of me ... do not like looking at someone's bumper and having to adjust my speed based on whatever they are doing .... speeding up, slowing down, dilly-dallying around a corner when there is no need ... I will pass them first chance I get ... and then settle down to my own comfort level which again is 10-20 over.

Over the Presidents Day weekend, I successfully completed my first "for the record" IBA SS1000. Running on I10 in West Texas, I was crusing at about 92mph on my FJR when I came up of a small group of 2d editions (couldn't tell what years as they all look alike) running the speed limit; 80 mph. So, I just hung behind them for awhile since I was way ahead of my schedule. In a little while some sort of a Honda "scooter" ran up beside me and was signaling a question asking me what channel I had my cb on. I hand signaled back to him "25". I could see he had a JM CB mounted. He moved to 25 and asked me why we was running so slow. I told him I was not with the others and was running a SS1000. I saw him twist the throttle and soon shot past me and all the 2d editions. A couple must had been embarrassed being passed and increased their speed. I kicked the FJR down a gear and blew by the entire lot watching them disappear in the dust. Caught up with the same scooter guy in Fort Stockton while refueling and OMG; it was a 600cc Honda scooter.
