83 gauge cluster vs 83 Royale cluster?

I have an oppurtunity to pick up an 83 Royale gauge cluster for my standard 83 Venture and was wondering if it would work, since it is a little different.

Gary, I'm not 100% sure. You may be right but I';m not sure. He is putting an '83 dash on an '83. You can't use an '83 on '84 and up but I'm not sure about any differences between an '83 Royale and an '83 standard...

I thought a Royale indicated the lower clock stopwatch functions on cluster.

 

If so at a minimum, the harness would be missing the 5 gear position indications.

I am not aware of any 83's having the 5 position shift indicator. I thought that was an 84-up thing.

Al, the part number is the same for the standard meter harness and the Royale meter harness, so I am assuming the clusters interchange.

Then what are differences between an 83 royale & an 83 standard instrument cluster?

I think what the OP is trying to find out if there IS any differences between the Royale & standard gauges. He doesn't want to go thru the hassle if there is a difference. Sounds like he doesn't have them side by side to compare.

 

I want to say NO, the diff between the 2 bikes are the add-ons that are on the sides (radio, CB, CLASS, etc) among other things but the gauges are the same. As long as they're both '83s.

I had an 83.The only difference in that year was things like clas system , cb radio.You can only use a 83 cluster on an 83 bike. After 83 the clusters changed.There is no stop watch, dimmer, or gear indicator on an 83 in any model.

Thanks guys. i found a good parts bike here locally, so i am buying most of the parts for spares. i picked up all the plastics (fairing,sides and boxes) for $150. The carbs seem to be really clean as though they were gone through recently, i will be taking those for $40. i probably take the V/rectifier, and TCI.
