etcswjoe Posted March 30, 2013 #1 Posted March 30, 2013 Ok I am about to push my bike over a cliff, first I thought I had carb issues so I went through the carbs cleaned and adjusted everything very little change. Changed fuel filter and checked out the fuel pump it seems to work well on the bench with good pressure and good suction. One day out riding I turned the key on and nothing happened turned the key on and off a couple times and everything lit up, this has happened a couple of times then last week I turned on the bike and everything lit up and it cranked but would not start turned the key on and off a couple times and then it started. I figure my switch is going bad but Is it causing all the other symptoms too ? Will a ignition switch going bad effect performance or is it all or nothing?
BoomerCPO Posted March 30, 2013 #2 Posted March 30, 2013 That's the same crazy things I experienced when the ignition switch on my 06 went berserk..... Boomer....who sez installing an emergency ignition by-pass switch will bring peace of mind....
Eck Posted March 30, 2013 #3 Posted March 30, 2013 Joe, By what you are explaining I do feel it is the ignition switch. However, remove your gas tank and check out this connector on your bike. It goes to your ignition switch.. see if your connector is burnt like mine was (See photos of connector in link). http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32359

Eck Posted March 30, 2013 #5 Posted March 30, 2013 Eck, I just looked at it and it sure does. It sure does what??? Look like the pictures? Id be willing to bet 2 out of 7 RSV's have the same problem and many don't know it. If so, read on as to what I did to fix mine.. Not saying you have to do exactly as I did, but you not a dummy....get that burnt connector out of there...........and replace it with what you feel is sufficient. Hope that is your problem and it resolves all your issues. I replaced my ignition switch and the connector and never had another issue............. except for a blue mustang...
