dueyk1111 Posted March 28, 2013 #1 Posted March 28, 2013 Bought my venture used last dec, from a stealer, been work'n on the bike since i got released from the doc's. finaly got warm enough to sync carb's, really nwas'nt too far out, took it for a ride, did fine in 1st gear, not to bad in 2nd and then she falls flat on her face with nothin, barely runs? believe i have plugged fuel filter or maybe bad fuel pump, do more investigate'n to morrow, gonna check how fuel runs out of petcock also. bike only had 14,317 miles on it when i bought it,stealer did'nt have any gas in it when i got it,first thing i did was treat gas tank and filled it up, ran it for 45 min. sat all winter that way.po must not have rid'n much, 14000 miles ain't much in 61/2 years!po didn't take very good care of it either! Hope i don't have to end up tak'n carbs off, carbs have never been my fortay!! but am mechanicly inclined, with everything i have read in here tells me i think i might be able to handle it!!:rotf::rotf:
XV1100SE Posted March 28, 2013 #2 Posted March 28, 2013 Put a can of Seafoam in the gas and run it. If you are able to run it then fuel is moving. If it bogs down at certain rpm then probably a clogged needle. I know it is a lot of Seafoam but the cost of Seafoam is small if it fixes your issue.
bongobobny Posted March 28, 2013 #3 Posted March 28, 2013 How old is the gas in it?? Takes less than a month for it to turn to liquid s***.
dueyk1111 Posted March 29, 2013 Author #4 Posted March 29, 2013 gas was put in last dec, right after i got bike home from stealer. i put stabil n a full can of seafoam, ran it for 45 min's, it sat rest of winter that way till now. should drain it n put good gas in it again, i know gas doesnt last long these days! runs fine at n idle, when i took it out on a test ride, good in 1st, there in 2nd, hit third n she is starvin for fuel, slow down n start agin, good till 3rd gear, tells me she's act'n like its starvin?
Cougar Posted March 29, 2013 #6 Posted March 29, 2013 Ran for 45 Min's at idle? fouled plugs maybe. have you pulled a couple yet to take a look ?
Cougar Posted March 29, 2013 #7 Posted March 29, 2013 I just remembered about 4 years ago , after getting above 3rd gear , it would stop producing the power range. could not go over 60 mph. come to find out I had a bad left rear coil. Good luck on what you find. Jeff
dueyk1111 Posted March 29, 2013 Author #8 Posted March 29, 2013 PUT NEW PLUGS IN ALREADY,N I CANT EVEN GET 30 OUT OF IT WHEN IT FALLS ON ITS FACE, BEST I CAN TELL ,RUN'N ON 2 OR THREE CYCLINDERS. STOP OR SLOW WAY DOWN, LET IT START OVER N FINE FOR 1ST COUPLE OF GEARS AGAIN:confused24:
Cougar Posted March 29, 2013 #9 Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) Try one more thing.. take the fuel cap off and ride it . I had a clogged vent line and the bike ran like crap. after pressure build up Yes all this stuff has happened to me lest these are simple things to try first. Jeff AND THEN http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7830 Edited March 29, 2013 by Cougar
dueyk1111 Posted March 29, 2013 Author #10 Posted March 29, 2013 YEP, WAS THINK'N BOUT THAT LAST NIGHT AS I LAID IN BED! THAT WILL BE A QUICK CHECK 1ST THING THIS MORN'N!!!!
Cougar Posted March 29, 2013 #11 Posted March 29, 2013 Yup, the first few time when this started for me it was driving me crazy then I said heck with this and turned the bike off open the cap and BAM all the vacuum sound come out. then made it home fine with out the cap. I just un-locked it and let it sit there. Good Luck! Jeff
dacheedah Posted March 29, 2013 #12 Posted March 29, 2013 I was thinkin fuel pump could be going also, try the petcock in reserve position also. . .
pmelah Posted March 29, 2013 #13 Posted March 29, 2013 :no-no-no: the problem is easy your to young for the 2nd gen:whistling: and too fast for it get a first gen you will be happy :rotf::rotf:seriously i would replace the fuel filter change the gas clean the petcock vale and reinstall before hooking hose back up i would stick it the gas can and turn on the key to see if the pump is working i actually did this with a mason jar yep the pump worked good i held the jar below the fuel pump level so to make the pump work
dueyk1111 Posted March 29, 2013 Author #14 Posted March 29, 2013 :BEEN THROUGH EVERYTHING i believe, fuel runs out of petcock really good,on both run and reserve. fuel filter wasn't plugged at all, vent tube wasn't plugged ,ordered new fuel pump, they are really proud of them ,ain't they. parts unlimited was a dollar more than yamaha. got new fuel filter on, pump will be in next week. gas com'n out of tank looked good n clean. when i ran the fuel pump into a can, it seemed to run a little funky, so i figured it was replacement time. THANKS to all for your help and in put into this!!! will keep ya all posted on results!!!!!
