No I don't have any. Well maybe a few bucks. Very few. By the time I got done with the retirement thing and all the medical I was about done. My question is. The Warden and I try to live "within our means" and I have a little left over after all this mess. Just buy another 1st Gen? She say NO!!! Is there anywhere to put it antmore that would make money? Banks paying less than 2 per cent. Anybody know a stock that is going to quadruple itself soon. Is there a savings that pays a little? Or just buy another 1st Gen?? Choices very few any more.

safe investments pay little return ie, utilities

most anything else is like gambling, the more you can make the highest chance you will loose it.

I say it's finally time to pop on a second gen

I am in much the same boat. I'm on disability and Medicare. I feel that I have enough mechanical skill that, added to the wealth of information available here and elsewhere, I am capable of doing whatever may be necessary. Better than the who cares kids in the bike shops. So I buy an older bike for cheap and bring it back to being a reliable and pleasant ride. Get yourself a low mileage 1st gen. You're familiar; you know what to look for; it'll probly outlast ya :080402gudl_prv:

I had that idea. Can't seem to sell the Warden on it. I have a few parts piled up just for that reason. And to build myself one....:whistling:

Dan, wait until this coming Monday, and I will have a nifty '84/'86 1st gen to sell you...cheap. That is, unless RedRider outbids me.

And, I am willing to deliver it. Can't beat that offer.

C'mon Dan??? You should know how this works. Let the younger pup (46) try to help...

Buy your wife something nice, take her out. Show her a great weekend. After all that, remember the Nice gift, THEN start hinting about how this ( cough) gen 1 bike will be part of the family, etc... Once you meet her needs, or wants, then it's likely to soften things up.

If that doesn't work, tell her you are going to hold your breath until she says yes...

( why she would say yes to a gen1, idk...probably she is saying no initially is bc she really always wanted a gen 2 )

LOL...you'll be waiting a while Dan. I'm SURE you will be old enough by the time that I sell mine. There are two problems with me selling it. First of all, I really can't afford to replace it with a new one right now. This one has been paid for a long time ago. Second of all, there is no way that I would take for it what people are saying that '99 models are worth. It's worth more than that to me. :)

Well Dan, if there is money left at the end of the month the only reasonable thing to do is take a mistress. Probably the 2nd month The Warden will buy you a 1st gen to make sure there isn't any extra spendin' money.:whistling:

I think Carl may just have something there!

In all seriousness here's what to do:

Any credit card debt?? Pay it off!

Any car loan? Pay it off!

Still have a mortgage?? PAY IT OFF!!

If you are debt free, then use it to do the Lord's work, it pays the highest dividend of all!

No debt and the Warden don't ride. I got a good look into charities not long ago so I think I'll dig a hole in the back yard.:whistling:

I thought because I had a military retirement I would be "set" after I retired from the USAF. HA HA was I ever sold a load of ... stuff. With my curretn job I'm lucky to make bills, and I aint got alot neiter. Good thing life expectancy is like 90+ now. I'll need it just to keep up. Dan if your up to reading some and are interested I have read some books by Dave Ramsey and he hits some very good advice.

Dan Dan Dan, don't let anyone else give to someone who you can give to yourself! Yes, I agree many so called charities are shams and scams so be careful to whom you donate! Donate food or money to your local shelter, find someone who is hungry and give them a meal (not money) or donate old clothes to the salvation army, etc. Help someone who is about to be thrown out in the street because there is no jobs and they can't pay the rent. Help someone get a decent education so they can compete in the job market. Show random people that there are still decent and giving people in this world! Simple acts of kindness are more valuable than gold or silver and cost much less!! You will be surprised what just a cup of water in the name of Jesus can do!! My philosophy in life is if you are not making this world a better place to live in then you must be making it worse...

To me giving of my time and money rewards me more than money can buy for myself!

Of course you could always become a day trader...

Don't know how this thread will bend, but it seems to be taking a turn,, so I'll help out.

Giving to others has very little to do with ones self, how good we feel etc. it also has little to do with who we give it to, although that is where the results are seen,,,,, it has more to do with what the Boss sees you doing, He's the one who dresses the lily of the field and clothes the birds of the air, and so is watching how you\we are following in His footsteps.

Hey, just think about it, He owns this place, and so can give where He pleases.

So give to who needs it, and then don't go worrying about it.
