Black wing Posted March 24, 2013 #1 Posted March 24, 2013 so im trying to get my forks out so i can replace the oil seals but i cant figure out how to get the air collar off. is there a pin holding them from sliding off the top?
dingy Posted March 25, 2013 #2 Posted March 25, 2013 Spray them with WD40 or similar lubricant. All that is holding them is the two o-rings in each collar adhering to the fork tube. I took a soft faced hammer and tapped them some to break them loose. There is a wire ring under each air collar that keeps them from slipping down the tube. Gary
Black wing Posted March 25, 2013 Author #3 Posted March 25, 2013 awesome! thanks for the info. i thought so i just didn't want to hit them till i was sure. last thing i need is to accidental bash a fork this close to completion
MiCarl Posted March 25, 2013 #4 Posted March 25, 2013 Twisting them back and forth a bit will help too. Probably can't twist if you get too crazy with the WD-40 though....... I like to put a bit of fork oil on them at re-assembly in the hopes they'll come off easier next time. Doesn't seem to make much difference though.
