rickardracing Posted March 21, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2013 I was thinking of going with satellite radio on the bike. Actually, we have it in the new car and like it alot. So I was thinking of getting a portable unit for in my suv and having a mount for the bike also. Who has it on their scoot, where did you mount the antenna? calperin Posted March 21, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2013 I purchased mine a couple of years ago, it was a Harley Davidson special edition. It comes with a magnetic antenna that mounts on their bracket, that fits on top of the brake fluid on the right handle. However, I'm thinking on move it to a central site, since I usually loose signal on curves...

Miles Posted March 21, 2013 Share #4 Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) I have an XM/Sirius radio on my RSMTD. It works great, and I love the selection of stations. It is plugged in to my JMCB2003 until, so that I can listen to the XM radio through my helmet headset. If you go to: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=749857#post749857 you can see opics of my XM radio and other farkles. SilvrT Posted March 21, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 21, 2013 I had it on my '06 RSMV. Mounted the antenna on the dash just where it meets the windscreen. Ran the wire inside the fairing. Connected it to the stereo via a Y-cord inside the fairing. Used the "Car Kit" and mounted it using the air duct adapter onto the speaker grille. Have some pics at home, will post later. Now on the Wing, I mounted the antenna on a home-made bracket connected to the right handle bar controls. The receiver is mounted on the centre of the shelter, just between the radio controls and the ignition. Again, pics at home. Been using XM/Sirius for several years ... enjoy the choices and don't have much issue with signal loss.

No good radio stations here in the Detroit area. Plus I do long rides. I have an mp3 player that is plugged into the cassette jack inside the fairing. But, I would like more variety of music. Not just what is on the mp3 player. I listen to some pretty hard stuff, Liquid Metal, Lithium, etc. But I also like the 50' and even the 40's, so XM would be good. I just was not sure if you had to have the antenna out in the open or if I could mount it inside the fairing.

The actual antenna was visible between the base of the windscreen and the dash. I'll get some pics for you later.
Cougar Posted March 21, 2013 Share #8 Posted March 21, 2013 I had my whole antenna in the fairing and it worked fine removed the system after the prices went through the roof. Wife still uses it only when we get the $24.99 for 6 months deals
Miles Posted March 21, 2013 Share #9 Posted March 21, 2013 Rick, pics posted at: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=749857#post749857 I move my XM radio between my bikes, and my 2 cars I also drive. I have power wires and antenna wires always mounted in each vehicle, so it is just a matter of moving the radio head unit.
bongobobny Posted March 21, 2013 Share #10 Posted March 21, 2013 Had it on the 1st gen, made a metal "L" bracket and glued it to the top of my windshield. Ran the antenna cable up the side of the shield and covered the edge of the shield with chrome door guard. Worked much better than when I had it on the luggage rack. On 2nd gen I had an aftermarket cone shaped antenna mounted on a homemade aluminum mast fastened to the handlebar. It worked really good until I bought the new Zumo with the Satellite radio package. The antenna is presently on the luggage rack until I can McGuiver something and get it up higher. We love the satellite radio!
jfoster Posted March 21, 2013 Share #11 Posted March 21, 2013 We have Sirius in our car and have grown to dislike it. After one of our members turned me on to Pandora radio for smart phones and love it and its free.

djh3 Posted March 22, 2013 Share #16 Posted March 22, 2013 My son has XM I think. He got the unit that is "portable" Seems to make the most sense. He can move from one car to another rpovided you either move the antenna wires or buy a second kit for wires which is what he did. My self, my sattalite radio is Pandora on my smart phone. 50-60's Alman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn Creed I'm all over the place. lol

Guest tx2sturgis Posted March 22, 2013 Share #19 Posted March 22, 2013 Smartphones and streaming apps work well in areas with cell towers that have data, but fail miserably when you travel out in the sticks, which is exactly where you want the entertainment the most. Plus, streaming apps use megs of data, and right now I cant remember the formula for data used per hour, but it can sneak up on you and cause an overage if used all the time. I bought a lifetime subscription for my XM. Worth every penny to not see that XM bill anymore.

I do not have one of them thar fancy shmancy phones, so a portable unit is what I am thinking. I see some have the antenna inside the fairing and some don't. I would prefer to have it inside. Good feedback from everyone. Thanks guys!
