MongoE9 Posted March 19, 2013 #1 Posted March 19, 2013 I bought a center stand from Ponch last year and it has worked great. Unfortunately the kick stand part bent so now it won't work. I have sent Ponch a couple of messages, but no reply. Anyone have any other ideas about a center stand without having to pay $300 for it? Thanks Mongo
Freebird Posted March 19, 2013 #3 Posted March 19, 2013 I'm pretty sure that he patterned them after the ones that I was making. He had asked me if it was OK. If so, it is just a stand off a first gen. You should be able to pick one up off ebay for less than $20.00. Will be easy to make the few changes to hook it to the special bracket.
abusive throttle cranker Posted March 19, 2013 #4 Posted March 19, 2013 What do you guys use for the spring and that curved arm piece? They are missing from my bike and the places I've looked all have them as obsolete and not available. I'm afraid I'm gonna be a good ole boy and tie it up with a bungie cord.
Freebird Posted March 19, 2013 #5 Posted March 19, 2013 I didn't use those parts on the second gen conversion. I usually got those pieces when I bought the used stands and I think I threw them all away a while back. Probably had a hundred of them. I'll look when I get home to see if I still have one laying around somewhere.
dacheedah Posted March 19, 2013 #6 Posted March 19, 2013 Don, do you still have the center stand on your bike?? If so do you find that you use it
Freebird Posted March 19, 2013 #7 Posted March 19, 2013 No, I removed it when a member had one fail...it bent...and I didn't have any to replace his with. I did use it some but not as much as I thought I would. I planned to build another one but have never gotten around to it.
dacheedah Posted March 19, 2013 #8 Posted March 19, 2013 Ok, I have a center stand and after looking at it was trying to figure out a different way to mount it up, I do miss that from my first gen. I helpped a harley buddy put one on his bike and it was attached to a plate that clamped to the frame with like 3/8 steel. Other projects going but one I want to finish.
Freebird Posted March 19, 2013 #9 Posted March 19, 2013 If you haven't seen them, here are the instructions and dimensions of the bracket that I was making. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1427
abusive throttle cranker Posted March 19, 2013 #10 Posted March 19, 2013 I'm not sure if I was an addressee for your posts. To make myself clear, I do have the stand and it is mounted on my 1st gen. But it hangs to the ground because of the lack of the spring and curved bracket which retract it and hold it up in position.
deepforkriver Posted March 19, 2013 #11 Posted March 19, 2013 Larry, Let me look when I get home tonight. I bought a 1st Gen center stand to fab a bracket for my 2nd gen. I think it came with the arm and spring. If you need the arm and spring, It's yours for the shipping cost. James
dacheedah Posted March 19, 2013 #12 Posted March 19, 2013 If you haven't seen them, here are the instructions and dimensions of the bracket that I was making. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1427 I have seen that, my thought was I could attach it to a plate clamped to the lower frame and leave the holes under the center for my lift adapter. I never looked to see how far back and how it was attached to the first gen. I might need pictures. . .
deepforkriver Posted March 19, 2013 #13 Posted March 19, 2013 Larry, This look like what you need? Let me know, James
abusive throttle cranker Posted March 20, 2013 #14 Posted March 20, 2013 Yes those do appear to be the missing pieces. Tho I've only seen them on a parts fiche view lol.
deepforkriver Posted March 21, 2013 #15 Posted March 21, 2013 Mailed them first thing yesterday morning. Hope they work for ya Ride safe! James
abusive throttle cranker Posted March 22, 2013 #16 Posted March 22, 2013 Thanks James. I really appreciate that!
MongoE9 Posted April 5, 2013 Author #17 Posted April 5, 2013 It is the life arm that is bent. I did bend it back to shape, but the next time I tried to get it under my bike it just bent again. I am sure it was weakend due to the angle when I had a rear blow out on the freeway doing 70. I am sure these things were not designed to lift the bike when the back tire is flat. Lately I have just been going back to the 2x4 under the tire and it works then. Now I just have to figure out why my brand new Avon Venom is leaking air. Spray bottle up! Thanks all. Mongo
