kantornado Posted March 19, 2013 #1 Posted March 19, 2013 I was out on a ride yesterday, went about 200 miles and the clutch seamed to of stayed engaged when I stopped. I started back home and for a couple of miles it was as if I had no clutch, Then it was working fine the rest of the day. Went out today and no problem. I have never encountered this before. Any suggestions.....Ron

Any suggestions.....Ron check the level of clutch fluid and if good think about changing it, it may be old.
M61A1MECH Posted March 19, 2013 #3 Posted March 19, 2013 When was the last time you changed the fluid in the resevoir or flushed the system? Could be dirt that got caught some place that would not allow the slave piston to move.
PGunn Posted March 19, 2013 #4 Posted March 19, 2013 I had the same problem check the fluid level when the bike is off the side stand and change / bleed the whole brake system.

djh3 Posted March 19, 2013 #6 Posted March 19, 2013 Yup if it look like Jacks ole #07 its time to go. ESPECIALLY if its on the rear brake system. I can tell you why from experience if you need to know. PHEW Cougar I know I have read it here a few times but to replace all the bleeders with speed bleeders is what under $20-30?

That is why I thought it was something else. It was shifting hard today and the clutch even seamed to of stuck again. I will drain all fluids again and flush it out Thanks again.....Ron
Guest Posted March 20, 2013 #9 Posted March 20, 2013 I know that when my oil heated up the clutch seemed harder to operate. That was usually an indicator that my oil needed changing. Im using either Amsoil or Mobil 1 Syn oil..20/50. Since I went to full syn I have had no real issues with the clutch. I also have the Barnett upgrade since 2005. Now sometimes inside the lower corner of the clutch master cylinder there may be a buildup of debris that could cause a drop in clutch pressure. Have you flushed AND cleaned out the cylinder completely?

PGunn Posted March 20, 2013 #11 Posted March 20, 2013 Now there is one other possibility and that is the rod that goes from the left side to the right and I have heard of that sticking and one fix is to spray some wd40 or a good machine oil (spray) on the left end behind the clutch slave cylinder. The right fix is to pull the clutch basket and pull the rod, clean and apply some light grease work the rod in and out until it's well lubed put everything back together and during reassembly install that new Barnett clutch setup change the oil and your done. I have an 06 Venture and have not had the problem but I looked into how to do it and that is the condensed version.
