Zeek Posted March 18, 2013 #1 Posted March 18, 2013 Ok so I bought the bike a few weeks ago and found out the stator was bad. So I swapped out the stator with a good working one. Go to start it and nothing just a click. The battery is fully charged. No blown fuses but it does have the original fuse block (don't know if that makes a difference). Is there any other fuses besides those six lil glass fuses or so. The bike was starting up fine before I swapped the stator. Is there anything I could have done wrong when swapping the stator? Please help.
Yammer Dan Posted March 18, 2013 #2 Posted March 18, 2013 Those glass fuse holders are bad about loosing connection. Be carefull they are very easy to break. Not the glass but the fuse holder itself. Swaping this out is a good upgrade. There is a in-line main fuse.
bkuhr Posted March 18, 2013 #3 Posted March 18, 2013 starter solenoid just left of battery just under fairing is likely suspect. Can verify by jumping the large screw terminals, starter should crank.
van avery Posted March 18, 2013 #4 Posted March 18, 2013 There is a big fuse coming right off the battery. It the red wire with a little retangluar box that has a main fuse in it. If you have a Volt Ohm meter you can check it or a test 12 volt light on the side away from the battery to ground and it should light up if it good. Just some other things to check quickly. THe run stop switch on the right handle bar in the run position? Your not stopping at the ACC position on the key switch? Is the bike in neutral and/or is the side stand up and have you tried to hold the clutch in while starting? If the side stand is down there should be a indicator on the top left of the CMU (middle of the dash just under the warning light). Are you sure you got the starter gears correctly reinstalled they were in the stator side cover toward the front. You might try pulling the small round cover ( two Phillips head screws) off the left side of the bike a (I believe it has a 19 MM nut inside. Put a wench on it and turn it counter clock wise. If it moves OK, Then I would use a jumper cable from the battery directly to the positive post on the starter to see if the bike will turn over. Good Luck
Snaggletooth Posted March 18, 2013 #5 Posted March 18, 2013 Just some other things to check quickly. Are you sure you got the starter gears correctly reinstalled they were in the stator side cover toward the front. This answer brings me to another question. Did you install a new gasket when you put the primary cover back on? Even if the gears are in the proper position, and there is only one position that they will go in correctly, the lack of a gasket causes a bind on the gears that will cause problems with rotation. Several have tried to get by without the gasket using only sealer and found the tolerances are too tight. If you have not used a new gasket loosen the bolts on the cover a bit (not removing them) and try it again and see if you get results. And I hope you used a lot of sealer where the stator wires go through the case. This is known problem area for oil leaks when stators are changed out. If jumping across the solenoid posts don't do it try hooking a jumper cable to the positve post on the starter itself and a quick tap on the positive battery post. This should help you eliminate any possible culprits. Keep us posted.
dingy Posted March 18, 2013 #6 Posted March 18, 2013 If jumping across the solenoid posts don't do it try hooking a jumper cable to the positve post on the starter itself and a quick tap on the positive battery post. Make sure bike is in neutral or on center stand when jumping either solenoid or putting power directly to starter. Motor can crank either way and if it is on sidestand in gear, and you are laying beside it jumping to starter you may get a first hand view of how heavy these bikes are when it lurches forward and falls over. Zeek Posted March 19, 2013 Author #7 Posted March 19, 2013 Yes the run/start switch is on Key is all the way to on Bike in neutral and tried pulling clutch in Starter gears in correctly bc I spun them a lil to make sure it's catching the flywheel I'm gonna try jumping the starter hopefully tomorrow after work. I'm just hoping for a simple fix
Zeek Posted March 19, 2013 Author #8 Posted March 19, 2013 Also I did put a new gasket. I tried starting it with the bolts tight and nothing then loosened them a lil thinking that was the problem and still nothing
Yammer Dan Posted March 19, 2013 #9 Posted March 19, 2013 Sounds like solenoid. Some cheaper ones on E-Bay. Mama Yama wants too much.
