SilvrT Posted March 18, 2013 #26 Posted March 18, 2013 Face to face, these conversations would go much smoother. I was not attacking anyone for their preferences. Differences are a GOOD thing. Brian,, I'm just having a "pick on Brian" day .... kindly take me with a grain of salt today.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted March 18, 2013 #27 Posted March 18, 2013 heh, some of you Texans crack me up that you think your state is so damned big. The province of British Columbia, Canada is bigger and it's not even the biggest province in Canada. I didnt say it was bigger than Canada or bigger than provinces that are half the size of the US.....but...I wouldnt want to go walking around the entire state...looking for a pair of whitewalls!
Freebird Posted March 18, 2013 #28 Posted March 18, 2013 I wash my bike every single year. Even if it don't need it.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted March 18, 2013 #29 Posted March 18, 2013 I wash my bike every single year. Even if it don't need it. 1991, 2001, 2011, 2021, etc? Thats what I call saving the planet!
Guest tx2sturgis Posted March 18, 2013 #30 Posted March 18, 2013 heh ... as the old saying goes, "it's all in the eye of the beholder". To me, a nice, clean, shiney vehicle suggests that "that person takes care of his 'stuff' and takes pride in it". As for "cleaning every other day", heck, I would wash and polish and buff my RSMV almost every time I took it for a ride and if it was an over nighter or other long trip, I would at minimum give it a good wipe down before leaving the next morning. I absolutely HATE a dirty looking bike ... it suggests an "I don't give a damn about it" attitude. Mainly, what I dont give a damn about, is the thoughts of other people who I dont even know. I dont care to impress them. I'm talking about the public, in cars, on the streets, in parking lots. I will clean it up really nice for a date, or a memorial run, toy run, or other events, but just going day to day...well.... the water spots on the plastic, the layer of dust from where we live, and the bug-splats all have a place on the bike. Blackish brake dust builds up on the wheels...a layer of road grunge can accumulate on the underside...but what matters to me is not what the guy at the gas station or local tavern thinks...its whats inside...regularly changed oil, grease where it should be, filters that were changed recently, tires with the proper pressure, brake pads in good shape, and a multitude of other items that all keep the bike in good running order. If you dont like dirty bikes, you should see the Ural! Everytime I ride it, I find mudholes or snowdrifts to blast through! It has some mud on it from 3 weeks ago!
BuddyRich Posted March 18, 2013 #31 Posted March 18, 2013 I wash my bike every single year. Even if it don't need it. Yea, Just before MD right ?
Cowboy Posted March 19, 2013 Author #32 Posted March 19, 2013 OK GLAD YOU ALL HAVE AN OPINION ON WASHING OR NOT WASHING! START ANOTHER THREAD AND LEAVE THIS UP FOR THE ORIGINAL QUESTION! My bike is 2004 with 91,068 and the wife and I ride between 8,000 & 14,000 miles a year depending on what side of the country we decide to ride in. The bike still looks like it did when I bought it. We have run mostly the D404 WWW however seems that Dunlop decided to change the compound and tire wear was not good. E3 was to noise in the mountains. Avon Venom are the tire of choice due to the way it handles the curves and still gets decent mileage for someone who rides like I do. Ask around the few here on the site all will agree that Cowboy rides like he stole the bike. Riding the mountains 90% of the time with not much Slab riding. We pull a trailer a few times a year. I was hoping that someone might have a solution of another option for Wide White Walls! Seems that the rear tire is the problem. I have the leveling links on, easy to remove and go back to original for the smaller front tire. Come to Georgia/ NC / Tenn. and we can ride the back country with all the best things in life. Our favorite bike, Our favorite woman, and Our favorite beer, wine, or mixed drink. Life is too short to read or think about the rants!
Freebird Posted March 19, 2013 #33 Posted March 19, 2013 OK Cowboy...if you want to take all the fun out of this thread. First of all, let me say that it's good to see you here again. You haven't been around much and we've missed you. Hope to see you at Vogel again this year if I can get there. As for the tires, I really don't know of any other options. Maxxus...Maxxim...something like that used to make one but I don't know if they are still around. One member here...may have been Pegscraper but I don't remember for sure, found a place that would put whitewalls on any tire. I'm not sure though, it may have just been car tires. I honestly don't know of any other options.

Might be worth a call.
Cowboy Posted March 19, 2013 Author #35 Posted March 19, 2013 Don, You can count on me being at Vogel! You know I just stay in the background until I need the great knowledge from all of our members. Not sure we will be paying extra for WWW just was wondering if someone had a solution that I had not seen. Thanks to all!

Sure is worth triple the 12 bucks every year for this knowledge. By the way....does any one have a soft scraper so I wont scratch my paint when I scrape the dirt off????:whistling:
