Not what I want to hear. I'm looking at a trip up by Toronto. Getting into Canada wont be a problem as I have time. The return trip though I got to make some miles everyday if you know what I mean. Other wise I'm gonna have a really long ssecond day.

Try not to cross at the major cities. Find a small crossing. We came across in Washington state at a town I believe was called Eagle. Two houses, one on the US side, one on the Canadian side. Quite literally NO traffic. NOT Eagle, Chopaka.

I will echo what Howard just said. I cross the border into Canada several times a year, on ridesd, and I always find a very small border crossing to do it. I have crossed many times, and it is a breeze. Most really small crossing are a 1 minute wait, or no wait at all. Avoid the big crossings, and...see some nicer sights.

On the way up looking at crossing over by Landsdowne 137. On the way out will be the Buffalo, Where is the peace bridge? I see a bridge at the lower end off the QEW. Google maps has me using the Gen Brock Pky to I 190.

Peace Bridge is in downtown Niagara Falls, quickest and best crossing.

On this end of the country we are separated from Canada by water, much of it wide. You have to cross by bridge or tunnel at one of the few narrow places. Those narrow places tend to have major cities on both sides.

And, at this end, the closest "small crossing" is so far away that there is no advantage to use it.

Just change your route, there are no real border checkpoints at a couple of the minnesota border roads. All of this "Security" is only there to make panicky americans feel like they are being "protected".

89 or 310 are nice smooth sailing into canada without any delays just a quick stop to show your passport and off you go. Granted this is not useable for everyone out east...

Detroit/Windsor...I crossed at prime times on the last 2 weekends. I was counting on sitting for hours because it was on the school holiday. Crossing there, 12 cars. Crossing back, only 2 cars. All booths open. Am not seeing evidence of the cutbacks yet.

We use the Abbotsford/Sumas crossing here in B.C. Also the Victoria/ Pt Washington crossing on the Coho ferry. Few waits unless you get the snot nosed kid or the bald guy.
