Brake Squeak

I put new pads on the bike last fall and started getting a brake squeak when applying the front brake. It doesn't squeak through the entire braking time, only during the last bit (under 5 mph) until you stop.

 

I broke it down last night and applied brake gel to the back of the pads thinking it was that issue, but, it had no effect of the squeak. It was still there during the last moments of stopping.

 

Any suggestions on what's causing the squeak and how to solve it?

 

I checked and all the squirrels are still in their cages, on the wheels and ready to run.....

Seriously, did you sand the pads before installing?? Sounds like the pads are glazed...

No I didn't, never done that before....any direction you can offer would be appreciated.

I generally rough up any pad before installing on anything. Also, if you don't properly wear in the pads when they are new the same thing can happen. Generally proper wear in is done by going around 40 mph and gently slow the vehicle to a stop. Repeat a couple of times and your new brakes should be properly seated to the rotor. I also clean the rotor first with gas, mineral spirits, etc. prior to installation just in case there are deposits, grease, oil or whatever on them...

Ditto on Bob's post here. Generally a dirty rotor will squeak and get worse the more brake dust builds on it. Along with the gasoline i've heard that cleaning the rotor with a fine emery clothe will also remove any fine particles.

All good advice here. Clean-up before installing and I break my brakes in with a few hard stops.
