Hey Carl:

How did you polish all that aluminum? I have to do that to my 89 VR because the clear coat is coming off. Can I send the pieces up to you and have you polish them for me? Oh, and don't forget to add new clear coat after they are nice and shiny!!!!!

Hey Jim.

There is a write up on polishing in the tech section. Gives you a pretty good start.

This got me started when I tried my hand at polishing. Worked well. Things you can add in as you go along to bring it to a higher level.

I like you idea.. Send it to Carl!! I'm interested to see what his tricks were..

BTW Carl. Looking good.:clap2:

Still think it has the wrong seat back maybe the wrong trunk. I do like the colour and it's looking good.

Brad

Yep, I think it's an 85 backrest, seems this one has had a complete makeover before, including paint. We had a little fun getting the faring frame to fit proper, but all seems good now.

Thanks for the note on the Tech Section. I didn't think to look there. But, after reading about all those grit numbers, my mind went numb! And my hands hurt already. I think I will just strip the clear coat and then just try Mother's polish and see if I can skip all those grit numbers. I never could figure out what all those numbers mean anyways!

Jim

(Or send them to Carl!!!) I wonder if he works for peanuts?

Take them off Jim, bring 'em over. Should be done in one day with 2 of us going at it.

I would like to come over, especially the M & E you are hosting, but I am too busy to make the trip. My schedule doesn't free up until April. Being retired is not what I thought it would be like. I am busier now than when I was working full time. I probably won't see you until MD day in Oberlin. I already have my hotel reservations made at the Oberlin Inn.

Now it sounds like there will be 2 of us 'experts'. This'll cost ya, specially if it grows to a full blown Meet.

Love you guys! :thumbsup2::banana:

Hey, dont worry about the expenses....i got a jarful of the discontinued pennies here sitting with me, and i will feed you guys so well, you wont want to go back home...( oh, but i will make sure you do!)

Sorry to disappoint you, ladies, but i dont think i can handle 3 old geezers here for too long.:scared:

And once my 89 is done, you guys can scavenge my 86 parts bike.

Dont worry about the cost, Carl...lots of change gets left over from the pension check end of month.:Laugh:

Lets set the date. Any time is good for me. I have a single car garage and enough room in there to work, i think. I do have everything we need, we just need to put it all together. Have an extra room if any one needs to spend night here. So Bongobob can come too, if he so wishes.:banana:

This thread is being HY-JACKED:happy65::whistling:

Maybe I gots a better idea. Seeing as this scoot been sitting around for a while, it will need more than just the faring put back on. The brakes will need to be serviced, oil change and filter, carbs will need to be brought back to life, maybe some leaking here or there, and who knows what else while we're in there anyways.

So my idea,, find a trailer, load the bike, drive for an hour to make sure it will go fast enough, unload the bike and get it fixed right,,, and oh ya, I'll have a 'parts bike' in my garage.

I know,,, about the food,,,, well somebody else can figure out how to work that out,, I did the hard part.

We wouldn't be able to get all that done in one day, and it should run right,,, right?

We could do it that way too, if you prefer. Food, or cash for food is still my responsibility. I have access to a trailer,will have to check with my buddy. I can pick up Ben on my way there too...

the carbs have all been cleaned by Rosie Toes...a motorcycle garage here in toronto.They are cleaned and dry. Set the day and i will be there. The parts bike is yours. If there is room on the trailer, will load it up too.Not sure how big the trailer is.

For you to set the day after consulting the other kind volunteers.:clap2:
