af226 Posted March 11, 2013 #1 Posted March 11, 2013 I started my 85 and went for a spin around the block. Everything seems fine the RPM is moving and the odometer turns but the speed needle does not move any more?? It was working ok the fall. I checked the connection at the front wheel and its on and tight as it should be if the odo works:confused24: Ideas?? Thanks.
bongobobny Posted March 11, 2013 #2 Posted March 11, 2013 Well if your odometer is working then nothing is wrong with the cable, etc. Your problem is with the movement itself, probably clogged with dirt or corrosion. You can try disassembling and cleaning out the movement with compressed air and alcohol but chances are there is another issue with it and it may need replacing...
reddevilmedic Posted March 11, 2013 #3 Posted March 11, 2013 its cable run...check for disconnection at the speedo itself. it just screws in.
dingy Posted March 11, 2013 #4 Posted March 11, 2013 its cable run...check for disconnection at the speedo itself. it just screws in. He said odometer was working, cable has to be intact. Gary
Marcarl Posted March 11, 2013 #5 Posted March 11, 2013 Little bit of moisture, and a little bit of time will make that needle seize up. You'll have to take it apart to clean and lube as best you can and then see if you did a good job.
mbrood Posted March 11, 2013 #6 Posted March 11, 2013 Sewing machine lubrication is a time tested lubricant for these type of applications... but you REALLY want to insure the parts are spotless first !!!
af226 Posted March 12, 2013 Author #7 Posted March 12, 2013 Thanks to all you great venturers!! I will have to have a better look at it this weekend. I will post my findings....I think it may be dirt/moisture, I have a small crack located on the lower left corner of the gauge cluster..... Thanks again for the info!! Brad.
