Cougar Posted March 21, 2013 #51 Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) Jim, notice your pics and my pics on the thread depth of our locks There about half the length as what we bought. Notice that mine has no threads left when the bolt is tighten down. So I had to bend the cam and only use the lip of the trunk as my catch as the lock will stop anyways at the right spot. If I had the thread length I would have notched the cam and used the latch. I think the Vendor has change the types since you got yours I might email him and ask if he still has the longer thread as well. Jeff Edited March 21, 2013 by Cougar
Cougar Posted March 21, 2013 #52 Posted March 21, 2013 OK' waiting for an email from the vendor today. will let you now if he still has any with the longer thread length. Jeff
Cougar Posted March 21, 2013 #53 Posted March 21, 2013 (edited) Well well well.. I did some research and I think I found what Jim was using ,notice the cam is longer as well as the thread depth. and it is also the flat cam.. at lest these are cheap enough cost I guess. So I ordered a couple of these to try. Boy I have lots of locks now http://www.ebay.com/itm/T-Handle-Cam-Lock-For-Enclosures-Cabinets-Desks-Generators-Boxes-etc-/150999200910?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item232840f48e I can add some here and there to other projects I have . I might even add couple to my Trailer. Jeff EDIT:: Vendor just emailed with the same above link as well. so this is what you need. sorry guys It was the link I got from another thread that was posted. If you want I will buy yours from you as this was my fault posting the wrong link . I also changed the link in the other post I made. The shorter thread does work though. except your not using the bracket and closing it onto the frame/rubber. Jeff Edited March 21, 2013 by Cougar
Cougar Posted March 21, 2013 #54 Posted March 21, 2013 Robert and John. send me your paypal addys when you get time. Jeff
Cougar Posted March 21, 2013 #55 Posted March 21, 2013 The Vendor just sent this note to me.. same place.. Just to let you know, the locks that you bought come with a very long flat cam. Do you wanna keep them or change to the flat cams that I was sending you before? I told him to send with the long ones as I could cut it down if I needed. I also think the the length will be perfect as well. Jeff
bongobobny Posted March 21, 2013 #56 Posted March 21, 2013 Yup! Just bought one! I'm sure I can find a use for the other one somewhere, like maybe on the trailer...
Cougar Posted March 21, 2013 #57 Posted March 21, 2013 Oh Goodie.. same here As I have the PIGGY Trailer with those two crap plastic latches on it. .so I figure the shorter cam will be perfect for that, one on each side.
gbaldy Posted March 22, 2013 #59 Posted March 22, 2013 Yes, Jeff that is the one I used. Like I said you just notch the flat blade to match the old blade. Find a thick pc of rubber so when you turn the lock you put pressure down on the rubber seal. which seals for leaks and the blade goes under the rubber boot. takes any slop out of the trunk lid. just play with the size of the rubber boot to get the right tension you want .
gbaldy Posted March 22, 2013 #60 Posted March 22, 2013 Oh and yeah those locks work good on my cycle mate trailer to. so not using the key all the time on that also.
Cougar Posted March 22, 2013 #61 Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) You might want to change the link on trike talk to the new link I posted here. this is what started all this LOL. The link is showing the short threaded (T) Anyways, thanks for your help. I think I will be good to go when I get my new locks now and thanks for the great pics. !! . gbaldy Posted March 22, 2013 #62 Posted March 22, 2013 I just want everyone to know I'm sorry. I'm the one that sent the wrong link on the ebay lock. It changed from when I bought it and didn't know like cougar found out that you could get the one I have. He did the digging and found the right one from the vendor. I really want to thank him for that. I hope my mistake has not caused anyone to much trouble or money. Again thanks to cougar for getting the changes and I hope who ever buys it, likes it like I do. Again any questions on it give me a call. 1-507-412-1425. Just one coment on the hole size. Try to file the hole so it follows the cam shape, it will keep it from ever spinning in the hole and notch the blade to match the old blade with a small file or hacksaw. I hope the pictures I sent help. Again my mistake on the link, sorry.
gbaldy Posted March 22, 2013 #63 Posted March 22, 2013 I'd like to edit it and put in the new one, BUT! I don't know how to do either one. was trying some stuff but didn't work . Help!
Cougar Posted March 22, 2013 #64 Posted March 22, 2013 Don't worry about it Bro.. Its all good. I will change the link right now on the other site lest I wasnt going crazy like I thought I was . Jeff
bongobobny Posted March 22, 2013 #65 Posted March 22, 2013 Yah! No big deal! You can just buy me a drink at the next PIP we go to...
First_N_Last Posted March 23, 2013 Author #67 Posted March 23, 2013 Well well well.. I did some research and I think I found what Jim was using ,notice the cam is longer as well as the thread depth. and it is also the flat cam.. at lest these are cheap enough cost I guess. Jeff Har Har - so I just bought another lock. All together, it is still very inexpensive. JohnB
Cougar Posted March 23, 2013 #68 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) Just a picture. As I have done this before when I had to add a whole new trunk lid a few years back... There is a 1/2 inch bolt that holds this stop bracket on. and it will slide back and forth for you to be able to adjust your tension on the trunk lid. Make since? There is a Molded threaded rod into the Fiberglass body for this to attach to. I had it off so I thought I would shoot a pic of it. as it is really hard to see under there. Cougar Posted March 23, 2013 #69 Posted March 23, 2013 Haven't you guys got your wrong lock yet? Just wanted to know what you thought about them? I know my first package took 2 days but my last one took 5 days .. They are out of IL . Jeff
ragtop69gs Posted March 23, 2013 #70 Posted March 23, 2013 I'm looking at a totally different type of lock,it uses a barrel type key, if it works out good I'll post pics and info. I'll be ordering it today. Sorry to say but, I think that round base lock is going to be trouble down the road, with it either spinning in the hole or cracking the trunk lid.
Cougar Posted March 23, 2013 #71 Posted March 23, 2013 I think that round base lock is going to be trouble down the road Thats what has been in my trunk since day one though. Maybe I am not following you. I also noticed how thick the trunk is when removing the old lock. not even worried about cracking. can't wait to see yor pics
ragtop69gs Posted March 23, 2013 #72 Posted March 23, 2013 True that the original lock is round, but with the added leverage of the T handle + the small round base you're putting all the stress in a concentrated area. It may not crack it all the way through, I was concerned about the gel coat & clear coat cracking. If I were to use the handle you have I'd make a steel backing plate to adhere to the inside of the lid to spread the stress across a larger area. I hope for your sake I'm wrong. Time will tell.
alwrmcusn Posted March 24, 2013 #73 Posted March 24, 2013 My T-Handle lock arrived (two days early!), waiting for the straight cam to arrive on Monday. Then I'll start looking at the install.
Cougar Posted March 24, 2013 #74 Posted March 24, 2013 I hope you have read the above revised post about the (T) handle. As the correct one comes with the straight cam on it and the longer threads as well. So a few of use have re-ordered the correct (T) Lock. Jeff
alwrmcusn Posted March 24, 2013 #75 Posted March 24, 2013 I hope you have read the above revised post about the (T) handle. As the correct one comes with the straight cam on it and the longer threads as well. So a few of use have re-ordered the correct (T) Lock. Jeff What revised post? I ordered the same lock I read on here about. Do I have the wrong one? Before I start trying to install the lock, can someone verify which is which? I've seen the photos in this thread, mine looks just like that one.
