Barry.B Posted March 9, 2013 #1 Posted March 9, 2013 Hi just a quick question about 2ND gen . the coolant plugs on the side of the block how hard are they to change . I have 2 leaking . I know how to take out but is there a trick to put them back in . this is going to be my tomorrow job . then finish putting everything back together then bike is ready to go .
XV1100SE Posted March 9, 2013 #3 Posted March 9, 2013 Whatever you used to screw into them to take them out is a good idea to use to put them back in. Some use an old spark plug but I found that a screw from a wall plug fit perfectly. Gives you something to get your fingers on to push back in. They don't go as far as you might think and the fake fins hold them in.

Gary N. Posted March 9, 2013 #7 Posted March 9, 2013 Barry, someone posted a tip about cutting the bottom out of a plastic water bottle to catch the coolant that drips out when you pull the plugs. Worked pretty good for me.

Yeah I did the dime trick and glued it on the inside of the cover with no leaks. The Yamaha dealer did not have any of the plugs. I did order the new plugs so I have them if I ever need them. I did this about 10,000 miles ago. This is real easy to do. Hal

I have changed the plugs and lost no more than about a thimble-full of coolant. Just screw an old spark plug in the existing plug and quickly put your thumb over the hole as you pull it out. Then grab the new plug and just pop it in as soon as you pull your thumb away. Much quicker to do than to write about it. But if you haven't changed your coolant in the past five years, then this is the ideal time to do that too. Good luck, Goose

I never liked dealing there and now it's worse then ever trying to find a parking spot since they moved the street over. I only ever went there for tire changes but now I go to a place in Belle River with lots of parking. BTW, I saw a few bikes out and about today around the county. Still too much salt residue on the roads to suit me though.

You might as well talk to the wall when going in there Iggy forgets everything you want and he has to order everything in . I finally got the bike 99% back together today I have to figure out how to get into where the fuel filter is and change it . But it will be done this week
