Snaggletooth Posted March 8, 2013 #1 Posted March 8, 2013 (edited) I've seen a few posts lately with questions about what is available for battery cable upgrades. We have had some members here in the past that were able to build these sets for us but it looks like they are no longer involved with that project. If I'm wrong give me a shout. I don't want to step in on anyones sales. But it got me to make contact with a provider I have dealt with and looking into having him make 4 ga cable sets fitted to the 1st gen Venture. I'm waiting to hear back from him and making arrangments to send him a set of cables as a template if he wants to do this. At this point I can not give any idea of the cost until he agrees and receives the set being sent to him. So if you're not in a huge rush to get the cables give me a few days and I'll post here with any new information as it comes along. Hopefully this might turn into a steady, reliable and affordable source if it works out. I'll try to keep this updated as things happen or don't. It's only in the idea stage at this point. If you have any interest in a upgrade set post here and I can keep track of how many might be needed. Mike Interested Members: Bill W. Squidley Posted March 8, 2013 #2 Posted March 8, 2013 Mike, Years ago I used to make the cable sets, it's a labor of love. I sold them for $40 a set, the materials I used, and shipping them came up to right at $30, so I was making $10 on each set and had over an hour into making and mailing them as there were several processes involved in it. I just got very short on time and had to stop doing it. I would love to see someone pick them up again, I need a set for the '86 I have. If you can get after it and have them made, I'll buy atleast 1 set from you
Bill W. Posted March 8, 2013 #3 Posted March 8, 2013 Mark me down for a set. Just one more thing to do before riding season starts!!
bongobobny Posted March 8, 2013 #4 Posted March 8, 2013 Mike I'm sure there is a market for them! Every 1st gen should have them...
bendtdj Posted March 8, 2013 #5 Posted March 8, 2013 I'd be interested in a set as well. Thanks, Dave
gwashorn Posted March 8, 2013 #6 Posted March 8, 2013 I have not checked my '89 for a cable upgrade but I bet I need it. I would want one too.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted March 8, 2013 #7 Posted March 8, 2013 yup yup yup .... I will take a set for sure
Flyinfool Posted March 8, 2013 #8 Posted March 8, 2013 lonestarmedic is the other guy that was making cables once upon a time. The last I heard (back in 2010) he had bought a bunch of materials for cables but never made them. You may want to contact him to see where he is at.
Jayceesfolly Posted March 8, 2013 #10 Posted March 8, 2013 Mike: I will take a set for my bike, also. Jim
Snaggletooth Posted March 8, 2013 Author #11 Posted March 8, 2013 Ok, looks like the ball is rolling. I heard back from the provider I'm working with and he wanted me to get a set of cables over to him to set up and see what the costs would be to build them. So those will be headed his way on Monday. More as it happens.....
Snaggletooth Posted March 13, 2013 Author #13 Posted March 13, 2013 The tracking shows the set of OEM cables have arrived at the providers shop for them to set up the materials and do an estimate on what the costs of a new set of 4 ga cables might be. So I should have more information soon. Mike

Dizzle223 Posted March 14, 2013 #16 Posted March 14, 2013 I am also interested... Just let me know how to "Snag" them Dizzle
Snaggletooth Posted March 14, 2013 Author #18 Posted March 14, 2013 (edited) Hey Jeff, Just sent off an e-mail to my guy to see where he's at with this. Hopefully I'll know something tomorrow. Mike Edited March 14, 2013 by Snaggletooth
Snaggletooth Posted March 14, 2013 Author #19 Posted March 14, 2013 Just talked to the provider I'm working with. He's sourcing out some of the connecting lugs to find the correct match for the OEM ones. Working to have these as close as possible to the original cable fit. Progress is being made.
Flyinfool Posted March 14, 2013 #22 Posted March 14, 2013 This was really good timing. I actually had all of the wire and terminals and stuff in my shopping cart from McMaster. But I am lazy enough to let someone else to the work.
Snaggletooth Posted March 28, 2013 Author #24 Posted March 28, 2013 Progress is being made....... I haven't forgot about you guys. At the last conversation with the provider I've been working with they were sourcing some of the lugs needed. I spoke with them today and they received the shipment of lugs they were waiting for and ........ You guessed it! One size is wrong. They are working to get that corrected ASAP. Still in the works. Don't give up yet. Keep you posted. Mike
adventurer 08 Posted March 28, 2013 #25 Posted March 28, 2013 Do you know what you plan to ask for a pair of cables?
