lwinders Posted March 7, 2013 #1 Posted March 7, 2013 Can someone tell me how much oil is required in each fork on my '83? And what kind of oil do you recomend? I found a thread about forks with progressive springs, but mine has the stock springs.
KIC Posted March 7, 2013 #2 Posted March 7, 2013 Should be 10 wt or 15wt if you want it a little stiffer. Put the progressives in and you will love them.
lwinders Posted March 7, 2013 Author #3 Posted March 7, 2013 Thank you KIC. Do you know how much to put in each tube?
utadventure Posted March 7, 2013 #4 Posted March 7, 2013 I put in Progressives. I agree, you'll love them! I found the 10wt. a little soft but didn't want to go all the way to 15wt. so, I put 7 oz of 15wt. and 6.5 oz of 10wt. and enjoy the ride very much (total 13.5 oz). Big key is to put equal amounts in each. Dave
bongobobny Posted March 7, 2013 #5 Posted March 7, 2013 400cc per tube per the Yamaha service manual. Several years ago a fellow from Toronto experimented by starting out with 380cc and kept adding 5cc and reported that there was a somewhat noticeable difference. Less oil, spongy ride. More oil, stiffer ride. Anyway, the book calls out 400cc or 14.1 Imperial ounces, or13.5 US ounces 10W...
