Daitan Posted March 7, 2013 #2 Posted March 7, 2013 For that price, nice bike...but a little high on the km's. Maybe for a few extra bucks, you could find a year or two newer, with less km's. just a thought.

If it appears to be properly taken care of, the mileage wouldn't scare me. Mine has this many miles on it and will pressed into service of several 1000+ miles trips this summer. Might want to knock down the price a bit, but you're in Canada. Bikes seem to be more expensive up there. RR
MiCarl Posted March 7, 2013 #4 Posted March 7, 2013 FWIW my 89 had brand new specification compression pressure at 89,000 miles. The maintenance record on it is dubious. I wouldn't let the mileage worry me much. Oftentimes it seems that ones that are ridden are better maintained than the ones that just sit in a garage.
SilvrT Posted March 7, 2013 #5 Posted March 7, 2013 I saw that one yesterday when I was looking. Looks like it's in great shape and the fact that it's a one-owner is a plus as you'll be able to get all the history on it. As for the mileage ... I'm neither here nor there on that. I bought my '85 Venture with 107,000 on it and my '87 had 97,000 ... sold them both at around 160,000 and they were still running strong. For that price, I'd be willing to take a serious look at it for sure. oh... I just remembered... I think I've seen that one advertised quite a while ago as I remember the pic of it in the garage with the Harley.
friesman Posted March 7, 2013 #6 Posted March 7, 2013 looks nice, but the price looks high to me because of the mileage. I would be inclined to look at one from the U.S and import it. Bringing a bike in is supposed to be a piece of cake as long as you get the title in hand and have all the papers at the border agenets more than 48 hours before the crossing with the new bike. Brian
XV1100SE Posted March 7, 2013 #7 Posted March 7, 2013 Don't think the mileage would be a concern. From the pic it looks to have some additional chrome (trunk rack, saddle bag rails, passing lights, rad cover, carb covers and twinkie covers). Windshield has been cut down so see if he has the stock one as well. Looks like a vr.org member in Okanagan Falls has an '05 Midnight for sale for $10,000 with 87k km. http://bc.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-touring-2005-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Midnight-Venture-W0QQAdIdZ461902808

I posted it here the other day. That is one very nice bike but maybe out of Kevin's budget ???
etcswjoe Posted March 7, 2013 #9 Posted March 7, 2013 I think I will join the bandwagon and say it's a little high.
Nemo Posted March 7, 2013 #10 Posted March 7, 2013 Your enjoyment and admiration of a fine Venture will satisfy you for a long time, while price will be soon forgotten. Just make a deal and go for it! Good Luck!
Miles Posted March 7, 2013 #11 Posted March 7, 2013 2001 Venture a bit older that I wanted but a good price I think... comments welcome. 167000 Kilometers is about 104000 miles. Kevin, I agree with most others that I would not worry about the mileage on it, as...that is really only equivalent to one year of serious riding. I also agree that the price can come down a little, since...as was stated, the bike has been for sale for some time now...the owner has another bike already, so he wants to unload this one...and cash in hand is always good. Offer him $ 4,500.00 cash...see what he says...and be willing to go no higher than $ 5,000.00 cash. Be firm. But...ride it home.
uncledj Posted March 7, 2013 #12 Posted March 7, 2013 That's a sharp bike. A bit hi, a bit low, no matter. I wouldn't worry about the mileage either, and what really matters is how it strikes you. If it's just what you want,...as long as the price isn't unreasonable, ....go for it. But what do I know...???
bongobobny Posted March 7, 2013 #13 Posted March 7, 2013 Yah! It's not uncommon to get 200,000 miles out of a Venture and more! You can try to bring him down a little using the higher mileage. What us Stateside members don't understand is that motorcycles cost more in Canada...
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted March 7, 2013 Author #14 Posted March 7, 2013 Yes I did shoot the 10,000 $ midnight around.... it is tempting but you know, I have never even ridden a second gen.... I may not even like it. So that is why I took SilvrTs advice and went looking again. 5 grand is not as much to risk on a trial thing, I may love it I may hate it but it looks like a good bike to try out. I sent the owner an email asking about tires and brakes. I agree a bike that has been ridden is likely been well cared for long run. roughly 7000 miles a year for a bike in Alberta is a lot of riding. considering they likely just have a 6 month season there at best. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm noting in particular about the '01 year...... maybe worth an airplane ride then when I can.
bongobobny Posted March 7, 2013 #15 Posted March 7, 2013 You will find 2nd gens a little sluggish compared to 1st gen but by no means slow. It is wider but not as tall. Low speed maneuvers it is top heavy and not as nimble. The riding position is much much better...

What us Stateside members don't understand is that motorcycles cost more in Canada... Just curious then... what do you (or anyone else here from the US) suppose would be a reasonable US selling price (selling price, not asking price) for this particular 2001 RSV that Kevin is looking at? I think one of the reason's things such as motorcycles bring a higher dollar here is based on supply and demand. Sure a guy can go to the US and pick something up, oftentimes for less but when you factor in the cost associated to going there, checking it out, clearing it with R.I.V. / customs, and the exchange on the dollar .... it's often a whole lot less of a hassle just to pay a bit more and get it locally. As it is though, I have been watching some of the USED bike prices between Can and US for both the RSV's and Wings and frankly, they are all over the map and there really is no consistency when it comes to more expensive here versus less expensive in the US. What I do see is that some folks will advertise a high price but we rarely know what that item actually sold for. now since we are (or have) dropped the 1.6 cent penny, that is my $0.05 opinion.
bongobobny Posted March 7, 2013 #17 Posted March 7, 2013 Realistically for the year and mileage, around the $4000 to $5000 range. Unfortunately safety chrome and mods do little to nothing for selling price...
dallio Posted March 7, 2013 #18 Posted March 7, 2013 this one is in cycle trader 2007 Yamaha Venture 1300 $6,000 http://images.traderonline.com/img/5/plcnad/7907686/108491739_1thumb_180x135.jpg 18 Used, Galaxy Blue, 1,300 cc, V-4, 79,586 mi., 809 lbs., Cruiser Motorcycle Encino, CA Private Seller (818) 990-5404
XV1100SE Posted March 7, 2013 #19 Posted March 7, 2013 ...Unfortunately safety chrome and mods do little to nothing for selling price... But... saves you having to buy them and put them on. Adding chrome isn't cheap. If it was a bare bike for $5,000... then add the chrome that is on it... costs you more out of pocket. $5,000 would be a good price.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted March 7, 2013 Author #20 Posted March 7, 2013 Realistically for the year and mileage, around the $4000 to $5000 range. Unfortunately safety chrome and mods do little to nothing for selling price... I have always felt that the "safety chrome" is always a loss when reselling be it a car or motorcycle... totally agree. I am hoping 5,000. It is going to cost me 1,000 to go get it and bring it home with airplane hotel fuel and permit to ride it plus inspection to register it from out of Province.
rmac345 Posted March 8, 2013 #21 Posted March 8, 2013 Kevin...I hit a deer in Sept 2012 with my 01 RSV that had 85,000 miles on it...insurance co. didn't total it, but it had $6600.00 damage, and with my $3000.00 accessory coverage, I netted $6900.00. I knew I would never be able to sell the bike for that price, so sold it to a local dealer wrecked, and he fixed it. I think the price on the one you are looking at is in line...provided it has been well maintained. A test drive will be the deciding factor. Good Luck
