Hi everyone, new to the forum. I just went Saturday and bought a 1983 venture royale. I paid only $850 for it. It has 45k miles on it. It runs but only on 3 cyclinders! I'm tearing her down to a rolling chassis and making a big bobber. I've never seen one made out of a venture royale. The motor looks massive and can wait to finish this thing! Any pointers or advice is welcome! Pics will come soon of my progress. I will be selling all body panels, gauges and instruments. I just want the rolling chassis and motor. She is a little ruff but not for long.:mytruck1:

Hello Brandon and :2BLUE:.

Well, you came to the right place for info, advice and education on the Ventures. Got a good bunch of folks here with a wealth of knowledge on these bikes.

There have been a few bobber projects by members here and a couple just recently. I'm sure you'll run across their posts before long.

I got to admit the idea of no tupperware is attactive at times when when working on these bikes. There is a lot of it.

So welcome and enjoy the site.

Mike

Yeah that is something I'm looking forward to is having a bike without all the plastic and other junk. I've always have had full fairing sport bikes. Does anyone know the difference between this engine and the 1200 v-max? Is it just the carbs? If so what is interchangeable?

Hi, and Welcome. The 1200 and V-max are the same motor, just that the 1200 is de-tuned. Somebody else can give more specific info than me. You will be advised to take out the engine and do second gear upgrade, even if it's done, most likely the undercut on the gear dogs was most likely not done and so then will give you trouble in the future. Brakes and brake lines can be upgraded as well as front forks. Also check for frame rusting, braking just behind the exhaust collector, some have it, some don't, but seems to be an easy fix with a good welder.

The guy I got it from said it hasn't had the second gear trust washer ever replaced. I plan to do the repair when I pull the motor to paint the frame. I have a lot of tabs and brackets I got to cut off the frame. I also have a small subframe I have to build for the seat. Thinking about trying to install two small radiator I can hide and get rid of the one large radiator. I'm open to any ideas. Thanks for the advice so far guys

The big difference with the Venture and VMax engines is the heads. They are interchangeable. I'm sure member Dingy will pipe in and give you the full picture.

Welcome aboard!!! There are a couple of videos available occasionally on fleabay dealing with rbuilding the carbs, and rebuilding the engine. Very informative...

Look at the two picture albums linked below.

The Rebirth of an 83 Venture series is the 83 I have completley rebuilt and modified motor to a VMax configuration.

The Hybrid folder is this winters project. Taking an RSV chassis and inserting a VMax configured 1300 into it.

You can also open threads I have started by clicking on link below, there is a lot of stuff there related to these two projects.
