My battery after taking it off charge shows 11.56V. I use a Yamaha Star charger - 1.8 "power" amps, constant current.

From what I've seen the recommended is a DEKA AGM drycell ETX20L.

NAPA has the ETX20L on sale for $130. Anyone in Ontario recommend somewhere that is less $ ?

I know someone here located the DEKA's up your way.

You might check auto parts suppliers around for a Big Crank ETX20L. Same battery under another label. I've seen some sled dealers selling them to.

I hope you can find one for under $130.00.

I believe Deka is handled by East Penn in Canada. They label our Honda batteries as well as some of the other imports. I pretty sure the label Carquests as well. so if you have any contacts there they may be able to point you in right direction.

I just bought the Deka ETX20L from SaskBattery out of Saskatoon. Check them on-line at saskbattery.com. $114.50 (plus HST) delivered to my door. Quick and excellent service from the owner Mark. Doug

Called East Penn... they quoted $160 but when I asked about local retailers in Kitchener they suggested Battery Wholesale. Their retail price is $115.

Thanks for the input !

I just called Carquest & NAPA and they both stock them in my part of the world - $130. Same part number but their own label.

I had called NAPA as well and got their price of $130. For Battery Wholesale it is DEKA.

I don't know if the 2nd gen uses the same battery as the 1st gen but for my bike ACME BATTERY on Parkdale in Hamilton carry's the Deka for $94.36 Odyssey with metal jacket for heat protection for $145.00 and without metal jacket for $135.00.

the deka has 340 CCA

the odyssey has 220 CCA with a 680 5 sec CCA burst

Thanks for the input ! Bought my new Deka battery yesterday locally for $115 + taxes.

Just another one of the things I get from VR.org.... recommendations on what to buy can save a lot of time and effort. Only thing I had to do was find a place with the best price, knowing what make/model to buy.

Battery Wholesale

320 Lawrence, Kitchener

Seemed like good people to deal with. I called them at the end of the day and said I wouldn't make it there before they closed.... they said they'd wait for me. Had the battery on the counter before I got there.

$115.... same as the cheapest web site I could find in Canada.

If you are looking for a dealer closer to you, call East Penn (in London) and ask them for a retail store in your area.

I went down yesterday morning to Acme battery in Hamilton and bought a new deka battery as well. Cost me $94 + Tax

Round trip to Hamilton and back would have cost me $20 in gas.

Thanks for the info though !

Put the new battery in today... fired right up !

Finished off my winter plans for the bike..

- carb covers

- passenger highway pegs

- remove gps tracker

- rewire under drivers seat to replace previous splicing with wiring harness from a member

- changed fuel filter

- changed oil and filter

- put air in shocks (took them down to 0 psi for storage on the lift)

- since the bike is on the lift, good time to put air in the tires

- reset my radio stations (what a pita)

Ready to ride ! Not bad temps today, heard a few bikes out. I can wait until we get a couple good rains to get rid of the grit.
