Another gun discussion.

You have no idea how weird discussions like these are to me - or anyone else this side of the Atlantic. I wanted to make some joke about it depending on whether you wanted to hold up a small post office, a large bank, assassinate or carjack someone. You just wouldn't have that conversation here unless you were in the army. Farmers might have a shotgun, or reenactors a muzzle-loading black powder musket, but that's about it. If you want to shoot at a target here you use a bow and arrow.

Although I'm sure I'd enjoy having a go if I ever came over to visit, when I see some car driver flipping out with road rage I'm glad that the possibility that they might be armed just does not spring to mind.

I'm not saying you shouldn't chat about it, just saying that it sounds REALLY strange.

Not having the right to self protection sounds just as strange to me.

I'm just sayin'

Just because you can't doesn't mean you shouldn't. :cool10:

Yeah I bet its about the same as when I hear talk from that side of the pond about boats, fog, water and trees.

We dont have any of that stuff where I live.

You don't have that ? Sometimes from here I can hear the foghorns of the boats on the Thames.

We're still just about allowed to defend ourselves (though when I used to be a teacher I wondered if it was worth the risk to my career...) - it's just fortunately not likely that I'd have to defend myself against a gunman. Some nutter going mad in a car, a dog out of control or even someone with a pool cue, but not a gun.

Then again, you probably find the idea of tasty warm beer odd, so go figure.

Yeah, the only warm, amber colored fluid in this house goes in the 'loo'...

You ever come over for a visit..I'll let you shoot some of my guns. As I'm sure other members would let you try thiers as well.

Good call.

I'd like to make the same offer.

Stop by and we can go in the backyard and rock and roll with some "assault" weapons.

I'd bet that a lot of Ventureriders are firearms owners and would be glad for the chance to introduce someone from across the pond to the experience.

There's a lot of good folks out there armed to the teeth. :cool10:

We outta' ask Freebird to set up a range at the next MD. lol:whistling:

If I ever get over it would be great to take you up on that - thanks.

Target shooting might be a bit different here - though some events like the Crecy shoot might look a bit more interesting (or just plain strange):

Ranges are 100-185 yards and this event was only for longbows and barebows.

The last one is an ordinary shoot:

PS - can anyone tell me how you get the page to do those little thumbnails so I don't hog all the space ?

I am looking at handguns. My only question is caliber. .380, 9mm, .45 or .40.

What are peoples preferences and why? I have done most of the other research. I have been looking at Glocks or Sigs. Just not sure which caliber and why.

Thanks

Dave

If AMMO is your only criteria, then I would choose 9mm. WHY, it's inexpensive compared to the .380, 38, 357, 40, 45. By being cheaper you will be able to train more & get more proficient ant using it.

When I was in my early teens, I lived across the street from a guy who won a couple of national championships and was an Olympic Archer. I don't know that any of you have ever heard of him but his name was Hardy Ward. His dad was our boy scout leader at the time also. I spent many hours watching him practice. I guess it would have been in the mid 60's.

You might feel right at home at one of our Renaissance Faire and Medieval Pageants.

But no hope for plucking the yew here....... not safe for the public.:rotf:

My wife lost it when the pants fell down... LOL

Without making this political....

I find it hard to believe Joe Bidens wife is lacking protection in any way shape or form.

Also,

shotguns are for hunting, not protection

otherwise our soldiers would have been issued a shotgun instead of a M16... Wake up!

WallMart:

Last 3 weeks running ... no shells

only hand gun caliber was 1 box of .45
