We got rid of ours last fall because they were too impractical. I got to take them out for a fast test ride before they loaded them up on the trailer. I was not impressed.

"Higher safety rating and easier to ride" Hmmmmm Ok, I would like to know just how many of those safer bikes have crashed since they rolled them out??

Thanks for the post Jeff. I'm not paticulary impressed either but my son likes them and is intending to get one sometime this year. I'm telling him to test ride one first before plunking down some hard earned cash.

When I test drove one two years ago I found the steering to "twitchy" seemed like the slightest movement of the handle bars made it jump around. I see they made changes for 2013 to improve the ride and stability.

There's a dealer up by me that gave one to their local PD.

I thought the main reason for police motorcycles was maneuverability and the small size. Even the meter maid trikes were narrow.

I see a Spyder as having most of the disadvantages of a motorcycle (exposed to the elements, not much room for gear, forget transporting a prisoner, etc.) with none of the advantages.

Our Police force starting using them about a year ago. when the HD motormen, where told they would have to trade in their Harleys, they all walked off the job. I haven't seen the spyders since

I hope he gets it Larry if he likes 3 wheels, a least this 3 wheeler dosent look like such an old man bike..:rotf:the touring spider with matching trailer is bad ass

I can see a use for them. But more manuverable than a traditional bike? Probably not. Working events in a downtown sort of envirionment yea, meter enforcment yea high speed pursuits probably not on any bike. You can probably fit more LEO gear on this bike than an HD. AS for prisioners, hand cuff them to the back and make them keep up.

In the past we've seen the HD meter maids using the trike versions but here's a realitively new twist on them.

But they're not the first either - http://www.dailymail.com/mediafiles/thumbs/450/311.53846153846/Spyder1_I110427230719.jpg

Maybe Skid can enlighten us on the usability and reasoning for WV choice there?

Love the Can-Am...they sell quite a few of them up here! If and when I make to move to 3 wheels, it will be a Can-Am. As I've mentioned in another thread...they are way more stable than any trike with 2 rear wheels!:stirthepot:

We Demo'd the can am , I found it to be like riding a snowmobile or 4 wheeler. We then rode a Hannigan RSV, no contest, the RSV is faster, more comfortable, has way more storage room and is VERY STABLE in turns and twisties. 50 MPH in a tight roundabout and I couldn't lift a wheel before centrifugal force wanted to rip me off the trike. :yikes:

The Can-Am achieves it's stability from computer controlled application of the brakes and/or throttle interruption. Myself I DO NOT want to trust my well being to a computer. I found them to be rather slow compared to an RSV. Also passenger room and comfort are lacking in comparison to the RSV.

My :2cents:

Kevin, I know that ONE has crashed as the parts for it are on Pinwall now.

Jeff, before we purchased the RSV I was convinced I wanted one. I took one for about a 20 minute test ride and that was all I needed to know that neither me nor the wife were comfortable it. I wasn't very impressed and the salesman had to keep reminding me I couldn't compare it to a two wheeler. I think I would have been fine with a trike like yours but if someone thinks it's safer simply because it has three wheels vs two I will disagree. No matter what we are riding we need training and must take a safe approach. I have a friend that has one and loves it, just not my experience.

Too bad this cop wasnt on three wheels (or two!) on this night, he might have been paying attention AND enjoying himself.
