Guest Posted February 28, 2013 #26 Posted February 28, 2013 Welcome to the forum. Now as far as a Venture goes you wont find much of anything comparable for the price. The 99 right on through the 13 are all about the same. My recommendation is to find one from say late 08 to current model year so there will be some warranty left. But dont let that stop you from buying an earlier model if you find one in great condition. Many of these used bikes have plenty of add-ons and mods already so the owners loss is your gain so to speak. The basic bike is just fine as it is, at least until you get the "bug" to upgrade, then watch out. One basic mod, especially someone your height would be a set of Barons risers. For about 60 bucks it will raise your handlebars upward and rearward for a more comfy ride. If you find one in the immediate area, including Jacksonville I would be willing to look it over for you. Bottom line....ride one first. You wont regret it.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 28, 2013 #27 Posted February 28, 2013 As a safety precaution I got rid of the intercom, all the driving instructions were driving me nuts. Yeah, MUCH better to be poked in the ribs.
saddlebum Posted February 28, 2013 #28 Posted February 28, 2013 Yeah, MUCH better to be poked in the ribs. You must have the low end model ....mine pounds on the Helmet and shouts recalculating in my ear, over balanceing the bike in the process:backinmyday:
ediddy Posted February 28, 2013 #29 Posted February 28, 2013 I'm going to give you an unbiased opinion from a friend of mine. We went to high school together and started riding honda 65's in 1967. He bought a 1999 goldwing a few years ago and we have taken many trips together. He sold the gold wing this summer and he called and wanted to know if he could come by with his wife and ride my venture. I told him sure and they did but he didn't seem impressed. He has been looking for a newer goldwing since. He called me this week and said he bought a 2007 venture. He said he had never had a bike that was so comfortable and he was more thrilled with the venture than any bike he has owned. He then said he couldn't believe the power the venture has and that he believes the 1300cc venture will out run any 1500cc goldwing. His wife also said she like the room she has on the venture and doesn't get the buffeting she got on the goldwing. I was surprised. I thought he was sold on the goldwing.

Jactana Posted February 28, 2013 #31 Posted February 28, 2013 http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/02/22/yamaha-star-royal-star-venture-best-used-bikes/ Cycle world just picked it as a "best used bike". I agree with their assessment. Ron:080402gudl_prv:

Yah ediddy, I tried a 'Wing the afternoon before I bought the '09. It was a no brainer...l
