Freebird Posted February 26, 2013 #1 Posted February 26, 2013 Take a look and then post your comments. Would be a lot easier than trying to maintain the list as I now do. May be concerns that I'm missing though. What do you think? http://www.assistancelist.com
GAWildKat Posted February 26, 2013 #2 Posted February 26, 2013 I like it, now if the site included an android and iphone app that would be awesome, would be ALOT easier to access the VRO list on the go than carrying around a printed or pdf list
Marcarl Posted February 26, 2013 #3 Posted February 26, 2013 Works good so far,, but I don't see anything for SNOW REMOVAL,,, or is that not considered assistance.
etcswjoe Posted February 26, 2013 #4 Posted February 26, 2013 I looked it over and just curious how well vetted is this site and how long has it been around?
Gary N. Posted February 26, 2013 #5 Posted February 26, 2013 The sort function doesn't seem to work. Searching for just members from Ontario spits out a list from everywhere including Australia. Also I'm not sure about some of the names on the list. There's a lot of handles that I'm not familiar with even though I requested VR info. So if we volunteer assistance on there are we offering to help all the folks on the other sites too?
Gary N. Posted February 26, 2013 #6 Posted February 26, 2013 Just looked around a bit more found that there are only 10 VR members listed as of 4:06 EST. So it looks like we are offering assistance to all members on that site. I don't think I want to do that.
Freebird Posted February 26, 2013 Author #7 Posted February 26, 2013 I don't want to do it either and I think that to be effective, it needs to be password protected for our members only. I think it may not be a good deal. I think at this time, I will recommend that you remove your name until I find out more about it.
MiCarl Posted February 26, 2013 #8 Posted February 26, 2013 Don, occasionally I'm looking for an application not offered through my hosting provider. I've managed to search and find free applications written in PHP/MySQL and even HTML that I can install directly. Not sure if you've tried that, but there may be a simple database app out there that you could take advantage of.
pmelah Posted February 26, 2013 #9 Posted February 26, 2013 ok i just removed my name from the list not that i could provide much help now anyway
Snaggletooth Posted February 26, 2013 #10 Posted February 26, 2013 Great idea, some good points to it. The search seems to lump everything together and don't seem to identify the partys group they are with in the display. Being available to ALL the groups is not attractive. Be a nice touch to be able to access our VR info that way.
playboy Posted February 26, 2013 #11 Posted February 26, 2013 Do you have to open and account to see if your on it ? Look to me like thats the case with wanting and e-mail account.
playboy Posted February 26, 2013 #13 Posted February 26, 2013 Then I ain't looking. Just so i can remove myself.
Freebird Posted February 27, 2013 Author #14 Posted February 27, 2013 OK folks...I have VentureRider removed from the list. I think it's a good idea but like some of you, I have some concerns about the privacy. Anybody can join the list. Now even though I have had VentureRider removed, that does NOT remove any of you who have already signed up. If you wish to stay, that is fine but if you want to be removed, you have to manually do it. 1: Log back in 2: Select 'My Account' 3: Select 'Remove me from list' 4: Save your updated account setting.

Not sure if you've tried that, but there may be a simple database app out there that you could take advantage of. How about HanDBase? I've got it on my iPad & there are other versions, too. You can create any kind of database you want with all the fields & field types you desire. You can even make relational databases. I use this app for all the racquet stringing I do. It's actually got 4 databases: Clients, Racquets, Strings & then the actual String Jobs database. Since I've made them linked to each other, from the String Jobs database I just select the Clients' info from the Clients DB, then Racquet info from the Racquets DB, etc., then type in the info in the remaining fields. I've even set it up to figure what the client owes. It's sortable any way you want, multiple views, sorting, filtering, etc. I could do this for VR, it would just take awhile to set it all up. However, right now I just use the Excel spreadsheet on my iPad & my BlackBerry for the VR Assistance List. No need for a paper copy. That still may be the simplest way to do it.

My other half is looking to do the dbase backend for the site, and probably an android app (both things keep schoolwork fresh) However he doesn't have the knowledge to work on an ipad/iphone app....want to collaborate?

Freebird Posted February 28, 2013 Author #19 Posted February 28, 2013 I've removed VentureRider from the list of clubs. Folks can join one of the other lists if they want to be we are not linked to it in any way.
