Daitan Posted February 26, 2013 #1 Posted February 26, 2013 Is the 1st gen a sealed beam or is it just a bulb replacement like the average car? and how do I get access it?

reddevilmedic Posted February 26, 2013 #3 Posted February 26, 2013 bulb is replaceable....you can upgrade to HID!
Snaggletooth Posted February 26, 2013 #4 Posted February 26, 2013 The '84 is a plug in bulb. Popular replacement is the SilverStar Ultra. About $15.00 or so. Gives a much better light than the stock bulb. HID is a good upgrade but there are a couple of tricks that need to go with that due to the headlight cutoff on the starting system. Someone will probaly be able to answer what they had done with that. There are several ways to improve the lighting from cheap to ahh damn! I believe the HID would give you more lighting and less amp draw on the system. The first pic is the pattern from the SilverStar Ultra on high. I went with ahh damn. Hella 90mm projectors.
Daitan Posted February 26, 2013 Author #5 Posted February 26, 2013 Thanks, went with the silverstar Ultra's. $15 you say, Try $48 for the pair. Couldn't find individual packs. Oh well, got a spare.
Venturous Randy Posted February 27, 2013 #7 Posted February 27, 2013 The upgrade on my 83 was to replace the entire headlight assembly from an 86 up bike and then go with a PIAA bulb. RandyA

Stanman Posted February 27, 2013 #10 Posted February 27, 2013 Thanks, went with the silverstar Ultra's. $15 you say, Try $48 for the pair. Couldn't find individual packs. Oh well, got a spare. I looked at the Silverstar Ultra's last summer. If memory serves me correctly I believe they were around $85 for a pair.
Daitan Posted February 27, 2013 Author #11 Posted February 27, 2013 Walmart in upstate NY is $48 for the pair. :cool10:
bongobobny Posted February 27, 2013 #12 Posted February 27, 2013 Another trick is to take your black rubber bezel on the MK1 and paint it gloss white with the appropriate paint for rubber. Just clean it really good with solvent first, let dry, and then paint. Last I checked, white reflects light whereas black absorbs light...
