kkent66 Posted February 25, 2013 #1 Posted February 25, 2013 I have a 2006 RSV 53k miles. I am having the standard trunk support bolt issue. I picked some hex head bolts and the two on the left hand side went in without any issue. One of the two on the right hand sand went in without issue. The final bolt feels like the whole is stripped out. It threads and turns fine but never really gets tight. I tried an SAE bolt and one size larger metric bolt but no luck. Any suggestions?
kkent66 Posted February 25, 2013 Author #3 Posted February 25, 2013 Yeah I was thinking that but was having a hard time figure out how to get the lock nut back there - I will give it a shot - thanks for the advise!
M61A1MECH Posted February 25, 2013 #4 Posted February 25, 2013 Take it to someone that can install a TIMESERT, noramlly the dealers can do that. here is a link to the website, supposedly better than a helicoil. http://www.timesert.com/
StarFan Posted February 25, 2013 #5 Posted February 25, 2013 You can either do as suggested screw in a longer bolt through the welded nut on the inside and put a locknut on the bolt. Second thing you can do is to drill the nut out with 1/2 mm bigger size drill and then make new threads for next size bigger bolt.
djh3 Posted February 26, 2013 #6 Posted February 26, 2013 If a full size nut wont go behind there try a "half high" nut. Or make one. Either grind a nut in about half thickness or put one in a vise or something and file it down. Then lock tite it
Carbon_One Posted February 26, 2013 #7 Posted February 26, 2013 Not much room behind that bracket. I'd go with the drilling it out & taping to the next size bolt myself. Larry
kkent66 Posted February 28, 2013 Author #8 Posted February 28, 2013 I used a vice grip to hold a lock nut behind the support brace - tight as can be!
