Engine swap

Hello All, I am new member but have been riding Venture Royales for some time. My question- has anyone installed a Gen 2 engine in a gen 1 frame. What are the problems and any solutions. I bought a parts bike complete to scavenge the fairings but am considering bringing the bike back to life. I have access to a low milage Gen 2 engine. Any thoughts?

Three main issues come to mind.

 

Exhaust hook up totally different.

 

Air cleaners interface to carbs is different.

 

Shifter linkage is an issue.

 

Other than that, the block itself has the same mounting points, so it fits in frame OK.

 

I have been working on doing the opposite by putting a 1st gen in an RSV frame this winter. Some pictures in one of my albums in my profile.
