My 86 VR has developed a hesitation from 2k-3k, it bogs down in this range until it gets to 3k then accelerates quickly. I have only had the bike on the road for a little over a month. It has new plugs, wires and TCI and ran excellent until about a week ago. Any ideas?:confused24:

Question. When you say new TCI is it new used or new new? Did this happen after not riding it awhile or did it come on while riding normally and happens everytime you ride it?

The TCI is a new igntech ,that I bought the last group buy. I bought the bike back in November and it hadn't run for a year. It ran well for about 3 weeks after everything was done to get it running. It does it everytime I ride once the bike gets warmed up.

Normally I'd think lean off idle, but if it waits until warm it's probably going very rich. Either way, you might have to have a look at/in carburetors.

If it was mine I would hook the old TCI back up to rule out a Ingtech TCI problem. The first ones in the group buy had an issue like this. My ingtech I bought on the first group buy missed, cutout and had a tach dropout issue. Dingy replaced it with a new one running a different program which is supposed to clear this up. I haven't tried it yet as I installed it after I had to put the bike away for the winter. :2cents::D

Carbs were removed cleaned and synched a month ago.

I started the bike today for a couple of minutes and then shut it off. The left front cylinder was still cold the other 3 were hot. So it looks like this cylinder is not firing, so where do I go from here?:confused24:

All you need to make sure is you got spark for spark plug and compression in you cylinder and gas going to that cylinder . which ever is missing will lead you in right path .:confused24:

Could be as simple as a spark plug. Start with the easy things first.:D

Did it run OK at some point after you put the new TCI in? Then develop the bog issue.

You didn't get the version of the TCI that had the cutout issue.

Also look at this thread, it helps people know what bike you have.

The problem developed later. It ran fine for about a month and then it started to bog down. Putting the ethanol treatment in the carb seemed to do the trick. BTW the bike is an 86 VR.

back flushing the carbs thru the drain is a good way to lossen things up. If there is crap in the carbs. Also spraying Berrymans down the pilot air jet helps low speed issues . The low speed circuit is the smallest and clogs easily.

did you replace the diaphragms? any pinholes will cause issues.

I didn't see any holes before but I thought they were a little stiff. I have a set now and will change them while my ankle heals.
