Newbie to the ad-Venture

Recommended Posts

Well I'll start of by saying howdie to ya all from the great state of Texas. Just geting my Venture Saturday at noon and looking forward to all the fun work to bring her back from the dead. I haven't even seen her in person, just a picture on CL,but the owner was willing to part with her for a couple of Daisy air rifles so now she's mine. The one problem I know of she has been passed down enough her ownership papers are lost and no one knows who had them last. I'll try to post a couple of photos once she comes home to me. After that the questions are going to fly. Right now all I know is no battery and carbs were pulled for cleaning. Oh let the fun begin.Looking forward to getting to know ya all.:fingers-crossed-emo

Thanks for the welcome.I think i've spent more time on this site than working trying to learn all I can. Hope the boss don't find out, yall know how that is I'm sure. I should be able to get a title, here in Texas you can apply for a bonded title which after 3 years if nobody claims her you can get the title in your name free and clear. It's kinda like buying an insurance policy. All bikes 25 years and older require a bond of 4k. which seems to cost about $250.00. Then hit up the tax office and pay taxes on 4k at 6.25%. Well at least it seems simple?Anyway after I get her tomorrow I'll try to figure out how to post a couple of pics and we'll go from there.Once again thanks in advance for all the help.:fingers-crossed-emo

Welcome aboard..

Once you get her home and have a look see.. you will know more. My biggest concern will be how long she sat.. If for too long then you start looking at replacing ALL the rubber components which can add up to a few bucks.. But if you enjoy wrenching and have some patience then it could be a rewarding project. The bike is an amazing ride..

Yes welcome. Hmmm a couple of daisy rifles? Hey if you're a good wrench then you might have some fun. I'll bet that 2nd gear will probably be gone on that bike, 83 to early 85's had that problem but the bike is powerful enough that it won't really be a problem.

Besides bad rubber gummed up carbs especially in the heat of Texas could also be a problem. Yamaha's are especially sensitive to this if not properly stored. Seafoam will help alot.

Remember if the bike is too much work you can sell her for parts , plenty here will help with work or buy stuff. and you just might even find one in better shape here. But spend the 412 bucks for member ship because the wealth of info and help here is priceless. and there are a lot of great members in your state that will be glad to help.

Okay guys got her home. Man is it ever going to be a job. Cracked plastic, missing buttons on controls, broken this and that, wow. Hey at least I'm only 49 and got a few years left to mess with her.At least she does turn over so she's not locked up. As far as the 2nd gear problem goes she has 97k miles on her so I think the problem has already been addressed? I'll try to upload photos.I will say according to the ole lady I'm not starting on it right away. I have a couple other bikes I have to finish first. They are close but you know how that goes. If I can get the pics to upload you can tell by the look on her face how pissed she is I got her. Oh well not the first time she's been mad at me.
