mralex714 Posted February 17, 2013 #1 Posted February 17, 2013 Where can I get a spark plug socket for my 86 VR?
friesman Posted February 17, 2013 #2 Posted February 17, 2013 a thin wall sparkplug socket from Lowes is what I use. The regular wall plug socket doesnt work,.... not enough space. Brian

Brian The thin wall I got wasn't thin enough. I took it to my grinder & ground it thinner. Gave it a diet. Grinders are wonderful. JohnnyB
Snaggletooth Posted February 18, 2013 #4 Posted February 18, 2013 I use a regular 3/8" 18mm deep well. Not hard to find as a single at most hardware stores. Just eyeball the wall for thickness. Most regular sockets are thin enough. Spark plug sockets are not. Best setup for me is the 18mm socket, swivel, short (4"") extention and the ratchet. Perfect fit all the way around. Find a short section of fuel line to stick on the end of the plug stud to get the new plug started again. Remember to try to blow out the area around the plug before removing. A lot if junk manages to drop down into the recess. Not cool when it goes into the hole.
MiCarl Posted February 18, 2013 #5 Posted February 18, 2013 If it has NGK plugs a standard 18mm spark plug socket should work. I got mine from Sears but I expect any auto parts store has them.

There also was a spark plug socket that worked pretty well included in the stock tool kit...
mralex714 Posted February 18, 2013 Author #7 Posted February 18, 2013 Went to Lowes today and got an 18mm deep socket and it fit. Only problem I had I got home and couldn't find a 3/8 universal, just used a short exstension to change the plugs.
