deepforkriver Posted February 14, 2013 #1 Posted February 14, 2013 Caught a rock from the cable guy's back tire the other day. Glad it hit the chrome strip, not me. Big rock, pretty sure it would have required dental work if any higher.. With all the dirt/gravel roads 'round here, it's hard to keep a clean front end. I know there were threads on this in 09, forgive me Don, trying to find a supplier less than $140. Didnt know which category to put this in either... Really dont want to go to stealer on this one.... HELP!
martinb321 Posted February 14, 2013 #2 Posted February 14, 2013 If it is one piece I will pay the shipping to send me your old one. PM me if your interested.
wrenchrob Posted February 14, 2013 #3 Posted February 14, 2013 I cant really see the damage in your photos. Iroken? Is it the tabs on the back that are broken? Ifso I think there was a thread sometime ago about repairing them.
deepforkriver Posted February 14, 2013 Author #4 Posted February 14, 2013 Ya guys it is cracked thru where the flag is in the picture with two cracks going up from there. The chrome coating is covering the cracks but it is bubbled there. Yes there are a couple tabs broken but that doesnt bother me like the big DING on the front. If I can find another reasonable, I will PM you Martin.
dfitzbiz Posted February 14, 2013 #5 Posted February 14, 2013 I would try Pinwall Cycle at this site http://pinwallcycle.com/
CaptainJoe Posted February 14, 2013 #6 Posted February 14, 2013 If it were me, I'd scuff it up with sandpaper on both sides, put some jbweld on backside and icening on the outside. Then primer and paint the color of your faring. You can always bump this post from time to time and eventually one will pop up. Of course the less chrome a bike has on it, the happier I am...LOL
djh3 Posted February 14, 2013 #7 Posted February 14, 2013 Sort of my line of thought too if you dont find one. there are different mylar coverings available also. I bought some in a carbon fiber look and covered some panels I had made for a mustang gt and also my other bike.
Cougar Posted February 14, 2013 #8 Posted February 14, 2013 Yamaha has them for sale :mo money: called a couple months back about one , so I fixed mine. ($160ish ?)
StarFan Posted February 14, 2013 #9 Posted February 14, 2013 125 US$ at Stadium Yamaha - Darn that thing is expensive and I do need one to ! Guess I will try to find a way to fix the old one that is all scraped up - but not broken. What should I paint it with ? It is for a 2000 Millenium bike. Would like to keep the chrome look though.
Cougar Posted February 14, 2013 #10 Posted February 14, 2013 maybe try the tan or the pear white on it. I get spray cans at color rite that match my MM pretty close. the tan would be easier though. good luck.
Barry.B Posted February 15, 2013 #11 Posted February 15, 2013 (edited) I just received one the other day from Cycle parts warehouse for 116.73 Part # 4XY-28345-00-00 It was the cheapest place that I could find I believe they are in Longview Tx Barry Edited February 15, 2013 by Barry.B
EL Cid Posted February 15, 2013 #12 Posted February 15, 2013 Ya hamaSports plaza $105 . The shipping will add up the cost.
bongobobny Posted February 15, 2013 #13 Posted February 15, 2013 Hide the crack with a decal or lettering...
turbota2 Posted February 15, 2013 #14 Posted February 15, 2013 The tab on one of the ends of mine was broken when I got it. I got some epoxy for PVC and a small piece of copper mosquito screen. Stuck it back together and used the screen as backing, filed it down to fit, drilled the hole out. So far it is solid. I hate paying that much money for a piece of plastic! I'm not sure that will help, it is what I would try first. Wayne
