kkent66 Posted February 13, 2013 #1 Posted February 13, 2013 I removed my fuel tank last week to flush my cooling system, replace plugs, and add a HID light. I noticed in the service manual the torque specs for the two side bolts is listed as 51 ft lbs. Is this correct??
bongobobny Posted February 13, 2013 #2 Posted February 13, 2013 No way!!!! I don't care how fat those phillip screws are! I'm betting if you recheck that 51 is in metric, not Ft Lbs... Just tighten them tight, that's all I do, and I've never lost a screw...

kkent66 Posted February 13, 2013 Author #6 Posted February 13, 2013 Thanks guys - I did NOT tighten to 51 ft lbs - I got to about 8 ft lbs and could tell that was PLENTY tight. Here is the pic from my service manual!
Guest tx2sturgis Posted February 13, 2013 #11 Posted February 13, 2013 I did a quick look on an inch-pound to foot-pound calculator website, and...I didnt miss by much! 61.2 inch-pounds is the same as 5.1 foot-pounds. And 51 inch-pounds is about 4.25 foot pounds. Yeah, 51 ft-lbs would probably twist the head right off that bolt!

Here is the pic from my service manual! That is why I never take the service manual on any vehicle as gospel. I have found too many mistakes over the years. Always check at least two sources, before doing the work.
