johnbroughman Posted February 13, 2013 #1 Posted February 13, 2013 Have looked through the other remarks cant find one with my problem. My cruise control has started doing crazy things. Most times it will not set, turn it on get to cruise speed hit set and resume and set light blink and go out, sometimes can turn it off and back on by the main switch and it will set but than if you hit increase or decrease button, it will go off and the two lights start blinking again, sometimes if you hit reset it will start to resume and just continue increaseing speed without stopping, have to turn it off. Need help as the control is my life saver on any trip, have ole arthritist bad in hands. Thanks guys know I can depend on good answers here. Oh, have a 01 RSV with 99,000 miles, and yea I put over 90,000 of those on it.
etcswjoe Posted February 13, 2013 #2 Posted February 13, 2013 Have you checked for vacum leaks and throttle cable snags?
rmac345 Posted February 13, 2013 #3 Posted February 13, 2013 Good cleaning of the switch should work...had the same problem on my 01 and that solved it. Dirt on the contacts inside the housing on the handlebar.
ACE50 Posted February 13, 2013 #4 Posted February 13, 2013 I had the cable at the vacuum actuator come loose and do funny things too. Under lower left fairing.
LilBeaver Posted February 13, 2013 #5 Posted February 13, 2013 [...] set light blink and go out, sometimes can turn it off and back on by the main switch and it will set but than if you hit increase or decrease button, it will go off and the two lights start blinking again, sometimes if you hit reset it will start to resume and just continue increaseing speed without stopping [...] You said the 'two lights start blinking' -- this sounds like one of the self-diagnostic trouble codes. There is a table on page 8-85 in the service manual that lists the codes and what they mean. Next time it happens, pay close attention to how many times it blinks in fast succession. The blink pattern will be lights on for 0.5 seconds, off for 0.5 seconds and then start blinking --- the number of times it blinks here is the code--- then off for 3 seconds and repeat the code again. Hope that helps
johnbroughman Posted March 1, 2013 Author #6 Posted March 1, 2013 Thanks guys, a good contact cleaning did the trick, I hope, working fine now after the cleaning, used electronic contact clearner and a little dry lubercant on the toggle swithches.
