tandemcpl Posted February 12, 2013 #1 Posted February 12, 2013 I am about to pull the trigger on a F4 Customs 19.5” windshield. However, I am undecided on whether or not to get the vent. What are the pros and cons of having the vent, and those of you that have it, would you do it again. Thanks Toby
Cougar Posted February 12, 2013 #2 Posted February 12, 2013 I have had vents on two screens so far. NOT NEEDED and they are great bug collectors as well. One day when I get my next F4 I will order it without the vent. When it's hot out. all the vent does is bring more hot air in. Just my 2 cents worth. As you might like it. some do some don't Good luck on your new screen you will enjoy it. Jeff

I just received mine today and will install tonight. They are a supporting vendor of vr.org and offer a 10% discount if you mention it. Great people to deal with. James
cecdoo Posted February 12, 2013 #7 Posted February 12, 2013 I have the vent, and would definetly get it again, no more bugs then what is splattered on your windshield, no problem cleaning mine. I use it all the time:thumbsup: Craig
bongobobny Posted February 13, 2013 #8 Posted February 13, 2013 Yup, have the vent and would do it again! Unless the temp is above 80 degrees, it gives nice fresh air. If you are having a bug problem, a small piece of screening installed on the opening of the vent fixes that...
dueyk1111 Posted February 13, 2013 #9 Posted February 13, 2013 put a vent in my other venture i had, loved it, only had 2 bugs come threw n hit me in the face all summer, i used it alot! new venture does'nt have one , but i allready have one to put in it. wouldn't ride without one. if you don't need it, ya close it.
TDunc Posted February 13, 2013 #11 Posted February 13, 2013 Lent me VENT... VENT! Unless it is REALLY hot it helps move air alot.
Eck Posted February 13, 2013 #12 Posted February 13, 2013 I have the vent, and would definetly get it again, no more bugs then what is splattered on your windshield, no problem cleaning mine. I use it all the time:thumbsup: Craig Same with me.. I have to agree with Craig. I have the vent on my GW shield and I really enjoy the extra air flow on hot days. I have had only two bugs come through the vent in 4 years that hit me in the chest that I know of.
Mike G in SC Posted February 13, 2013 #13 Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) I got a vent on my RSTD Clearview shield 4 years ago. I find I never use it, keep it closed. Would not order the vent again. Just something harder to clean. I ordered a F4 for my RSV without the vent. Just fine thanks. I think a vent would not fit with my windshield bag anyhow. And, DO GET THE F4 for the RSV. It is clear and tough, not the first scratch in 2 years. Still looks like the day I got it. Mike G. EDIT: BUT,,, if you think you are going to get a new shield then constantly wonder if you should have got the vent,,,,,, then GET THE VENT. (It would not be an easy add-on after you get the shield. That polly is tough stuff.) Then if you don't need it, keep it closed. Hey, I did that once. Edited February 13, 2013 by Mike G in SC
kkent66 Posted February 13, 2013 #14 Posted February 13, 2013 I purchased an F4 for my 2006 3 years ago. They are fantastic sheilds and cleaning is a VERY easy. As far as the vent I believe it to be personal preference and no one way is better than the other!
dacheedah Posted February 13, 2013 #15 Posted February 13, 2013 Forgot to add that I have bugs go right through the vent into my mouth or hit me in the face OUCH. Free protein:rotf:
DarkLeftArm Posted February 13, 2013 #16 Posted February 13, 2013 I don't think anybody mentioned it yet on this post, but my experience is that opening the vent, even just a little, reduces wind buffeting. It also helps provide a smoother flow of air for my passenger. By the way, mine is wide open all the time, unless it's under about 45 degrees.
tandemcpl Posted February 13, 2013 Author #17 Posted February 13, 2013 All, Thank you very much for responding to my post. I’m still not sure which way I’m going to go; however, I like the idea of the vent producing a smoother air flow for my passenger. Less buffeting for my wife is one of the reasons for going with the tall shield. Again, thanks and be blessed. Toby
tandemcpl Posted February 13, 2013 Author #18 Posted February 13, 2013 Toby, Have you checked out the baggershield? I just received mine today and will install tonight. They are a supporting vendor of vr.org and offer a 10% discount if you mention it. Great people to deal with. James James, Yes, I have looked at this shield. Two things stopped me from considering it. 1) I’m looking for something a little taller than they offer to get the wind off my passenger. 2) I’m vertically challenged and I think the division between the two parts of the shield would be real close to my line of sight. I think the Baggershield is an interesting product and would work wonderfully for many people, but I really want the extra protection of a taller shield. Thanks for the info, and I look forward to riding with you in the future. Be blessed. Toby
