dwatson636 Posted February 11, 2013 #1 Posted February 11, 2013 I have a question for all my new Canadian friends here. I have recently started to watch Canadian sitcoms. I started with the infamous Corner Gas, moved on to Hiccups, and just finished season 2 of Dan for Mayor. Can anyone suggest any others that are similar? Or other ones that you like. I like the comedy and anything scifi. I find the humor different and refreshing from what is being shown in the states. Dave
Yamamike Posted February 11, 2013 #3 Posted February 11, 2013 Little Mosque on the Prairie The Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town King of Kensington (older but still good) Just to name a few!
friesman Posted February 12, 2013 #4 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) Corner Gas is a show I enjoy, its kinda quirky and an acquired taste, but a good clean fun show that was shot about 30 miles south of Regina SK. with the indoor scenes shot here in town at the sound stage. I am not too keen on Dan for mayor, but get a kick out the slapstick stuff on Red Green. if youre looking for a comedy satire about canadian amateur hockey try to find the 1980's movie Slapshot, Paul Newman starred in the low budget flick but it is funny. Little Mosque on the Prairie was filmed here in SK. too, but it just didnt do much for me, but, i do like the weekly comedy show that Rick Mercer puts on, he travels all over Canada being a sort of everyman doing different stuff and sniping at our politicians. http://www.rickmercer.com/ . BTW all of the Stargate series were filmed in BC mostly, so was Battlestar Galactica a couple of years ago, I think. Here are a couple of pics for you. Brian Edited February 12, 2013 by friesman
dwatson636 Posted February 12, 2013 Author #5 Posted February 12, 2013 I am downloading the Little Mosque on the Prairie now. I really love the Stargate shows. I have the box set. And I have Slapshot as well. Good hockey movie.
brewser23 Posted February 12, 2013 #6 Posted February 12, 2013 Not a Canadian show but if you can get it or come across it Fawlty Towers is hilarious. John Cleese is brilliant in it and has a excellent supporting cast
mabeline Posted February 12, 2013 #7 Posted February 12, 2013 SCTV I think it was Canadian Show wasn't it?? Hilarious any way. Canadian Air Farce is another I like ! Mabeline
Pegasus1300 Posted February 12, 2013 #8 Posted February 12, 2013 Not a comedy but Foyle's War is a good mystery set during WWII.Good shots of Spitfires flying and what looks like a an E3 Norton.Really fine acting though they do tend to mumble a bit.
Sailor Posted February 12, 2013 #9 Posted February 12, 2013 Once you have gone through all the great Canadian comedies you can move on to the great British ones. Fawlty Towers, The Two Ronnies, Doc Martin, Little Britain, etc. There are a couple good Irish ones to. Dave Allen and Mrs Brown or Mrs Browns Boys.
saddlebum Posted February 12, 2013 #10 Posted February 12, 2013 REDGREEN 'nuff said What are you laughing at REDGREEN is a handymans must .....A visual BIBLE Of how to fix or patch just about anything. Some segments even teach you how to build things you may not otherwise be able to afford to buy. Now some of you Americans, are worried about not being able to buy AMMO. Well once you watch REDGREEN You will realize matters could be much worse WE COULD RUN OUT OF DUCT TAPE
