They have closed all the roads in New England due to this storm, never saw this. Strange not having no cars on roads at all. Hope it turns into what they are saying, nobody will ever believe them for a while. Been snowing since 10, only 5-6 ins. out there now.

I heard the Massachusetts (spelling?) said all vehicles off roads by 4:00 PM. Seems drastic compared to my experiences of 24-36" blizzards in the 60's-70's in Omaha, NE.

I am sure that the current government reaction is different than fifty years ago.

I just got done clearing the driveway and back patio of 4 1/2" of that ugly white stuff. But I have to tell you, I JUST LOVE MY GRAVELY 816 TRACTOR with the 32" snow blower on the front. :cool10: Makes short work of it.

:rotf::rotf: What reaction? :rotf::rotf:

I don't remember any reaction. :whistling:

I remember it took 3 hours to get to work that day in '75 I think it was to drive 4 miles to work. When I got there at 9:00 AM the radio weather guy was predicting "flurries". That was the word he used. It was already knee deep at best by then. At noon the company told us we could go home. Too late. It was three days before the crews, city, state and National Guard were able to get to us and get us home.

Flurries....... :bang head: :crackup::crackup:

I love this place.

They salt the streets when it rains and then can't get through the drifts to clear streets when it actually snows.

All the news stations and weather channel were saying that cars were ordered off the roads by 4:00 pm in Mass, and I also think they said in Maine. They said that the Governor of Mass said that anyone caught driving a car on a public highweay would be fined $ 500.00.

Ha ! I remember living in northern Maine and in Vermont, and when the snow fell deep, everyone got around on snowmobiles, on the highways. The damn Governor didn't say people couldn't get around by use of a snowmobile, or that they would be fined $ 500.00 if they went to work on their snowmobile.

Very quick story...February of '92, and I am on my way to the dealership in Littleton, NH. to pick up my brand new 1991 Honda ST-1100. There is 3 feet of snow outside, and as we drive to the dealership, we are passed by several people on snowmobiles...on the highway. I go into the dealer, (pretending) to want to pick up my ST-1100 right then, and ride it home. (I know I am not really going to ride it home, but I am messing with them). This dealer took a full hour of trying to convince me to NOT take the bike home in the 3 feet of snow, and then they offered to deliver it to my house in Vermont, for free.

Okay, I will let them do that. I laughed all the way home, and still laugh about it.:rotf:

Miles, you say Littleton, NH., I used to go up that way in 70's-80's. A group of us built a a/frame cabin slept 15-20, in Wells River, VT. area. Camping, hunting fishing, snowmobiling, partying used that cabin a lot. Always a good time. Cabin was in West Newbury, and we passed a lot of cars during the snow storms on our machines.

Brother lives out there and said everyone waited till last minute and the stores and gas stations :bang head:were hit hard. He complained about the lines to buy extra gas for his generator so I asked him why he waited till the last minute but complained about his fellow shoppers.

Total was 21''. still haven't plowed streets yet. had 3 4x4's stuck in front of house, they're not high enough and by time they reach my house the snow that they've been plowing without knowing it builds up and their tires are off the ground. They'll learn.
