Patti and I are planning a trip from Diana Tx (home) to just outside Philadelphia, Pa and then onto Chicopee Mass.

We are looking for places to see on the way. Mapquest has us going thru Memphis, Nashville and up that way.

any other suggestions??

We will be on the 06 RSTD, pulling our little cargo trlr.:fingers-crossed-emo

You didnt mention how much time you have to take this trip, but if you have some extra time I would reccomend these directions:

Diana Tx to Birmingham, Al, north thur Chatanooga, Tn., to CLeveland, Tn.

Take hwy 64 east out of Cleveland, Tn., to Frankin, Tn. (beautiful ride).....then go north to Sylva, tn., and on to Ashville, Tn. another beautiful ride.

From Ashville go east / north to Linville, Nc., and continue on to Boone, Nc. and on to Wytheville, Wv. (a beautiful ride again)

Out of Wytheville, take I- 81 north/ east as you would have in YOUR directions and you can continue on to your destination.

The above directions will take you: 1,706 mi, 28 hours

Your directions take you: 1,590 mi, 24 hours

we are planning on 3 weeks or so, , ,all according to how long it takes for family to get tired of us being around, , , , LOL.

Naa, , we are going to Patti's nephews graduation just outside of Philadelphia, , spend a few days there and then ride and look as we head to Chicopee. My daughter and family are Marines stationed there. we will spend some time spoiling granddaughters and then ride some more before heading, lazily, back to Texas.

This will be a test for Patti, , ,longest she has ever ridden is from home to Vicksburg and back, , , ,

I have made the east coast trip several times pulling my kwikkamp that dumbass me sold, , , , , One of the things I need my butt kicked for.

It will be the longest trip on the RSTD as all the others were on Wings.

We are both looking forward to the trip and adventure.

Ton's of great rides along the way.. Look for alternatives (and there are plenty) to stay off I-81. Just no fun ... I won't focus much on the southern areas as I figure you have heard plenty of them before (Blue Ridge, skyline drive, etc). If you don't want to come that far east right away, you can shoot up from Nashville into WV. Lots of great roads, scenery & historical sights. If you stay a little more west of PA coming out of WV, you can see Harpers Ferry, cruise up into PA and see Gettysburg, then head east through Lancaster and Amish Country to PHL. Heading north when you leave PHL you can back road it up though the Poconos and into NY or following the Delaware River up into NY. Either way it a good ride. Depending on routes you could skirt the finger lake area or go more into the Adirondacks. So many choices and plenty to see. I typically start my route planning looking at the State and National Byways, then National Parks and Battle Grounds. Depending on your interest there is so much between here and there.. 3 weeks might not be enough time!
