Condor Posted February 8, 2013 #1 Posted February 8, 2013 OK, when typing up a long comment to a thread... yeah I can get wordy sometimes.., and want to correct a typo or change around the way it's said, and I rapidly hit the back space three or more times, the screen will return to the original post, and I'll loose everything I've typed. It really pissses me off.... to the point I'll just give up on the thing and move on rather than try to retype it. At times when I think about it I'll copy a long comment just in case... But I still forget and the backspace just happens. This is the only site that it happens on. Grrr!!
Carbon_One Posted February 8, 2013 #2 Posted February 8, 2013 So it looks like you need to think a bit while responding to posts. Or make fewer mistakes. Larry

Freebird Posted February 8, 2013 #6 Posted February 8, 2013 I just typed this message and then backspaced and started over and didn't lose anything. I'll continue to try and duplicate it and then see if I can find out what is causing it.
XV1100SE Posted February 8, 2013 #7 Posted February 8, 2013 My backspace works fine too.... but if I hit ALT and left arrow it goes back a page. Hitting ALT and right arrow takes me back to what I was typing.... and don't lose anything.
Eck Posted February 8, 2013 #8 Posted February 8, 2013 My back space works.. started over and didnt loose anything... problem could just be a loose nut between chair and keyboard...(just kidding...)
Nemo Posted February 8, 2013 #9 Posted February 8, 2013 Possibly you just hit the wrong key in error. Sometimes when this happens, the message gets miminized. Next time, run your curser across the symbles at the lower left of your screen and just maybe you'll see what you've just lost, and you can recover it. Owen
Condor Posted February 8, 2013 Author #10 Posted February 8, 2013 Yep. Happens to me too. Same result as you. Mike Glad I'm not halucinating and not alone.... Don... try changing the font on something the size of a paragraph and then hit the backspace a few times... quickly. Over the years it's happened to me a bunch, but not everytime. Don't know what gives?? I just tried it on this post and it didn't happen.... Maybe we gotta ghost??

CaptainJoe Posted February 8, 2013 #12 Posted February 8, 2013 (edited) Eck, thats what i was thinking...LOL I've lost everything on occasion also... it mainly happens when I loose the internet connection when submitting a reply.... so i make it a practice to highlight and contrl + C every 5 min or so. and especially right before I submit. Cause I'm a slo typr an cant spel togood either.... Also hate this keyboard when it gets ckacker crumbs under the keys and some quit working.... Edited February 8, 2013 by CaptainJoe
BIG TOM Posted February 8, 2013 #13 Posted February 8, 2013 Glad I'm not halucinating and not alone.... /QUOTE] It happens to me once and a while too.....you're not alone .Usally when I type something really long......so I keep it short...we both must be doing something wrong................
MikeWa Posted February 8, 2013 #15 Posted February 8, 2013 Freebird I do not believe it is an error on the forum. I think it has something to do with Internet Explorer. In my case it happens after I use I-spell. Then if I go anywhere in the text and 'backspace' three or four times all is lost. It doesn't do it every time but frequently. Mike

pmelah Posted February 8, 2013 #17 Posted February 8, 2013 i had the same problem on IE i now use firefox or chrome and have not had that problem only on IE does it do that so i dont spell check either
bongobobny Posted February 8, 2013 #18 Posted February 8, 2013 Yah! Occassionally the site does wierd things to me too!! One thing that happens quite often is I will hit forum or read a post then hit the category button to return to the listings and I will get a blank page until I scroll down then the page will appear...
Condor Posted February 8, 2013 Author #19 Posted February 8, 2013 The spell checker disappearing act may be the problem. I do use it once in a while and I can't say for sure that I used it before the disappearance,,,, but I might have since it doesn't happen all the time??? However, I use the checker on other sites without a problem??? Go figure... :confused07:
Freebird Posted February 8, 2013 #20 Posted February 8, 2013 Thanks, I don't use IE but have it installed for checking these type things. I use Firefox and have never had it happen. Plus, Firefox spell checks as I type so ISpell is not needed. I'll check it with IE and see if I can make it happen.
creole Posted February 8, 2013 #21 Posted February 8, 2013 I think what is really happening is something in the windows OS called "sticky keys" Seems to me there is a setting that allows multiple keystrokes to perform a function like "page back". I'd have to look into it, but it seems like I've seen something on that before.
Aimhigh Posted February 8, 2013 #22 Posted February 8, 2013 sometimes I have problems along this line...I've started typing the msg in MSWord...then, when I think I have it...copy it into the site...seems to work.
friesman Posted February 8, 2013 #23 Posted February 8, 2013 Its happened to me a couple of times too, and only on large time consuming posts. I think it could be something like the issue we have at work with our webmail running on Exchange server. In IE i understand there is a timer of some kind running and after a set time the exchange server thinks you should be done and it times you out if youre not actively working. It will let you send or save the message, but anything else you do will wipe the message out and you have to start all over and log yourself in again. As most of us probably have our settings set to auto login and we dont get logged out entirely here, here we just lose our data. THats my story and I am sticking with it..... Brian
Freebird Posted February 9, 2013 #24 Posted February 9, 2013 I have tried several times to duplicate this problem and just can't get it to happen. I've tried it with IE and IE 64bit. I've tried it with ISpell installed and with it not installed. I've tried spell checking and not spell checking. I've tried back spacing several times slowing, very fast and holding the back space key down and deleting my entire text. I even tried holding the computer upside down and under a running faucet and just can't duplicate this issue. I'll continue to pay attention to it and see if I can get it to happen.
Flyinfool Posted February 9, 2013 #25 Posted February 9, 2013 The only time I end up deleting all of my typing is if after typing the long post I hit the back button before the "Submit Reply" button and then open another thread. This seems to be very consistent and repeatable.
