shuttlebug Posted February 9, 2013 #52 Posted February 9, 2013 Yeah I think I would. I used to lust after Goldwings, but this RSV is starting to grow on me. I've had it 8mos now and 4k miles (and I hardly ever drop it anymore!) and it is comfortable for my long legs. I sat on a wing and it was cramped and had too many do-dads and gizmos for me. But I do miss a tach!
spear Posted February 9, 2013 #54 Posted February 9, 2013 But I do miss a tach! I don't reckon they turn over fast enough to warrant a tacho!
shuttlebug Posted February 9, 2013 #55 Posted February 9, 2013 I don't reckon they turn over fast enough to warrant a tacho! When the RSV goes over 8000 it really gets up and moves (at least it sounds like 8000!)
spear Posted February 9, 2013 #56 Posted February 9, 2013 When the RSV goes over 8000 it really gets up and moves (at least it sounds like 8000!) I took mine out to peak revs in first gear once upon a time (valve-bounced her) but have no idea what the revs were. Does anybody have any idea? I suppose a tacho would be nice. - ?
Freebird Posted February 9, 2013 #57 Posted February 9, 2013 I don't remember for sure but I'm thinking around 6500. I've raised mine with the Dyna 3000 but I think that is what it was.
DanOh Posted February 9, 2013 #58 Posted February 9, 2013 I did... Traded in my 02 with 100k on it for a 2012 at a great price last fall. Gonna try to get 140k miles out of my new 5 year warranty
msshearin Posted February 9, 2013 #59 Posted February 9, 2013 NOPE I WOULDN'T!!!!!!!!!!!! would track the sob that stole mine, kick his butt and get mine with all the diamond cut extras back.....we have been through a lot together
dacheedah Posted February 9, 2013 #60 Posted February 9, 2013 When I replaced the 89 Venture Royale I was convinced I wanted a spyder, so I test rode one and neither myself or the wife liked it. We tried a Hardley and again it was not as comfey and I felt bull legged plus another 11,ooo to get less than the venture, she did not like the back seat on the wing or Kaw but loved the venture. So yeah
BOO Posted February 10, 2013 #61 Posted February 10, 2013 I've had an 84,86,89 and now the 01.... If something were to happen to the one I have I would buy another one in a heartbeat. My buddy Sarges46 found the 01 for me, went and picked it up 3 days before Christmas one year. If this one gets wrecked or whatever I would buy another 2nd Gen. BOO
SMSgt Posted February 10, 2013 #66 Posted February 10, 2013 Yes I would. When I bought the first one in 1985 I bought it because it is what I wanted. When I bought my 03 it was what I wanted, again. So when they come out with a new, I mean really updated RSV, I'll buy again.
Guest scarylarry Posted February 10, 2013 #67 Posted February 10, 2013 With no changes...NO I would look closely at the Victory CCT.. I can say I never regretted buying the Voyager and the only thing I would change on it is to a shaft drive... It ran flawless to Key West..
hmlemons0608 Posted February 12, 2013 #70 Posted February 12, 2013 I rode a 84 venture standard for 11 years and when it met an untimely end under the front end of a Saturn. I didn't even consider any other bikes. If it doesn't have the Yamaha V4 I don't want it. I now have a 99 RSV and plan to keep it for a long time.
wkboard Posted February 13, 2013 #71 Posted February 13, 2013 YES! as soon as possible. I love my old '99 RSV! Then I would start customizeing it like the one I have. (That would take awhile, though) Best bike out there! (for my needs.) I love the comfortable way she cruises. Might upgrade though, maybe get me a 2000 red one.
Mike G in SC Posted February 13, 2013 #72 Posted February 13, 2013 Well for anyone looking for one, Freebird has posted about one for a friend. It's a loaded 2007 for $6500,,,, THAT IS A GOOD DEAL. In CA. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=75957 And the ad: http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2007-Yamaha-Venture-1300-108491739
BigBoyinMS Posted February 13, 2013 #73 Posted February 13, 2013 Used? Yes, great bike and great value used. New? Not unless it was finally updated and at a competitive price. Why pay $20k+ for a new 1999 bike? Buy an under 50k mile '99-up change all the rubber and fluids and you still have $10-15k to play with. As far as new bikes go... I sure like the Victory line. Even the fugly Vision.
BradT Posted February 14, 2013 #74 Posted February 14, 2013 Used? Yes, great bike and great value New? Not unless it was finally updated and at a competitive price. Why pay $20k+ for a new 1999 bike? Agree For fun looked up what 20,000 was in 1998 and it worked out to about 14,300. Normal inflation has increased the price, not because Yami wants more money. Still agree why pay top buck for an old, new, bike. save a lot of money find a good deal on almost new and you will have a great deal. Had an 86, 1999 and 2008, guess I like them. Brad
Leadwolf56 Posted February 14, 2013 #75 Posted February 14, 2013 Same here, I've had an 87, 90 and now a 2006. Bought the 87 local, the 90 and 2006 both used from other VR members. Great bikes.
