I've asked this question on another web sight and I've yet to get an answer . according to specifications , a 1996,97,98 Royal star engine has 73 HP and The 1999 Venture has the SAME ENGINE, Bore and stroke , carburetors and compression ratio and HP is 98 according to specs. How was that achieved?? I've found articles about the increase in HP but none that state how it was done?? Oh and one other question ,what was the purpose of the the added bracket on upper front of engine to the frame?? (other than to make it harder for me to change spark plugs LOLOL)???

The G2 Venture and the early royal stars are not the exact same engine. Different carbs, cams and the early ones were detuned. If I'm not mistaken the carbs on the royal stars are 32mm and the Venture is 34mm.

I know there are some others that will chime in, but the G2 Venture mentions 98hp at the crank, which transmits to mid 70's at the rear wheel.

I provided some info on this in the other thread. There are several differences. Carb size is not the same. The early Royal Stars had too small of an air intake, etc. See the other thread for more details.

So are you saying HP is the SAME???

Here's a link that show a 2007 specs and CARBS ARE 32MM the same I'm not super smart when it comes to motors but I really want to know EXACTLY how this was done and now I've got another QUESTION when you say DE TUNED what exactly does that mean?? I've heard that term before but don't know how that's done either

HP is not the same. Bother were rated at the crank so the HP you quoted for the Royal Star was also rated at the crank. According to the specs I've seen, the early Royal Star had 28mm carbs and a MUCH smaller air intake.

Also along with different cams, 32mm carbs, double valve springs and larger intake systems (among other things), I believe the G2 engines have balancers added.:confused24:

1st gens have the balancer shaft.

Carb Venturis are the big killer.

1st gen MKII - 35mm - 962 mm square area

RSV - 32mm - 804 mm square area - 83% of MKII

RSTD - 28mm - 615 mm square area - 76% of RSV & 63% of MKII

Almost everyone is giving bad numbers or wrong years for specs. Where's fact checkers when you need them?:confused24:

I totally agree, i used to belong to the ROADSTAR forum and there where two guys on there that new the 1600 and the 1700 inside out and I mean I don't care what you asked they knew everything, but, they both were motorcycle mechanics and that's what they did for a living . In defense of everyone here I myself have found 2 different sets of specs on the 1st GEN one states 28mm carbs and the other claims they have 32mm carbs. The specs on the 2nd GEN tend to all agree on the size of carbs and the HP also the weight difference of 120Lbs wet. I've googled yahooed and done all the searches I care to do. I'll just leave at ones bigger than the other and newer. Thanks for all the info.................:confused24::confused24::confused24:

You gotta remember that there is a "in between" bike. The '96-2000 Royal Stars are neither 1st Gen or 2nd Gen. They are the 78hp ones with 28mm carbs. Now to confuse the issue, some of them were called "Tour Deluxe". That is not the same bike as the 2005 and up Tour Deluxe that has the same engine as the 1999 and up Venture.

Would that be the same as the Tour Classic? I know in 1999 The Tour deluxe did not have same engine as the Venture but it did have 4 into 2 exhaust and did not have..well forget it this has gotten way to confusing I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:

In the '96-2000 group, the Tour Classic and Tour Deluxe are basically the same bike, except the TC had soft leather "slant" saddle bags and the TD had larger hard bags. :cool10:

If you are referring to the 1st gen Venture (83-93), it never had 28mm carbs. 1983-1985 (MKI), 1200cc motor it had 34mm carbs. In 1986 thru 1993 (MKII) 1300cc motor, they had 35mm carbs, same venturi size as all 1200 VMax's.

The RSV is referred here as the 2nd gen Venture, 1999 to present.

The RSTD's are not referred to as a Gen anything, maybe that is what is confusing.

When you talk 1st gen here on the forum, the majority of us are thinking and talking 1983 to 1993 Ventures. Now your talking 1st generation royal stars (started in 1996), the 1st gen Royal Star has 28mm carbs. The 2nd generation Venture started in 1999 to present, has the 32mm carbs. I know it can get a bit frustrating but folks are trying to help here, so please keep this in mind.
