From now on the opinions :2cents: of our Canadian members is worth a lot more....in fact it is 2 1/2 times more valuable!

We will now give you our "nickel's worth"

As of yesterday ((Feb 4th) the Canadian mint will no longer be producing or distributing 1 cent coins. It will still be legal tender for awhile...but the penny will soon be completely out of circulation.

Cash sales will be rounded up or down to the nearest 5 cents, but electronic payments will still be the same.

The understanding is that, with the disappearance of the penny, prices will be rounded up or down.

So henceforth, your 2 cents worth will be valued at nothing!

... but I always knew that!

Finally now those danged things that are advertised as, for example, $49.99 will now be $50. If we're losing our penny, maybe they'll have to stop this STUPID .99 in pricing. I mean, who the heck do they think they're fooling anyhoo??

I love it. Rounded 'up or down'. Just who would be rounding their prices down?

Mike

According to the "rules" set forth by the govn't on this, the retailer (or otherwise) must use normal rounding practise.

If it 1 or 2 cents, round down

If it's 3 or 4 cents, round up

I think I read somewhere that only about 22% of the time we would "lose" on this. So what's a few cents here and there anyhoo ... I'll just go grow me some more nickels
