kkent66 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I have a 2006 RSV - 50k mikes. Late last fall my choke lever would no longer stay out on its own. Choke still works but I have to hold it out. Any suggestions on how to fix?
GeorgiaYankee Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Mine does the same thing. Either all the way out or in, doesn't like the middle area and turns itself off. I just replaced some stuff in my carbs and didn't see anything that would act as an adjuster. Wondering if I have a part missing...
creole Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 MY 99 does the same thing. Some times need the choke for quick start on a cool morning, but don't want to sit with it while it warms up. As soon as you let go of the choke it dies. I have began to start it with the choke and while I'm holding the choke out, I reach over to the other side and crank the Idle screw in a turn or so, let the choke off and it will stay running. As it warms up the idle speed is high and begins to rev a bit, so I back the idle screw out till it sounds normal. Sounds like a bit to go through, but easier than trying to get the choke to stay put. If yours is like mine, I could get the choke to stay out until I walked away, then it would die. Creole
steamer Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I believe this can be adjusted or thightened. I had mine apart last year and figured out how this all works. If i remember right there are two little plates, one has a couple holes in it the other has a nub that drops into the hole at what ever setting you place the chock knob in. I think there is 4 settings. I'm goinig by memory here, wich isn't very good anymore.
steamer Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 right behind the choke knob is the bracket assembly. There is a nut on the bottom that hold everything together. Look up from under the choke knob. Just tighten that nut a little bit. see if that works. I thing that how I fixed mine.
djh3 Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Small O ring around choke rod. I had simular problem many years ago on a bike. I finnaly took the knob off slipped a small O ring on the shaft and pull choke out take you fingers and slid O ring up against the bracket. It hold enough tension so it dont just fall back but when you push the choke in it moves. Just food for thought if the other stuff dont work.
