usedcyclesales Posted February 3, 2013 #1 Posted February 3, 2013 I choke the bike and it starts needs to warm up quite a bit then will idle then the idle starts to get higher and higher and will not go down PERIOD even though the choke is all the way in , at least i think it is you can't really tell with out removing the tank and all the carb breather hoses etc.. I turn down the idle but every now and then either a carb is closing or the choke is backing off because the idle is to low making me believe either a carb or choke is sticking open or something like that making it idle high the way it is I don't have to give it any throttle in 1st or 2nd gear ANY IDEAS>>>>>
MiCarl Posted February 3, 2013 #2 Posted February 3, 2013 Vacuum leak will do that too. Very small amounts of starting ether around carb boots and vacuum hoses will let you check it. Change in idle=leak found.
CaptainJoe Posted February 3, 2013 #3 Posted February 3, 2013 I had a bike do that to me once and found it to be a kinked throttle cable.
usedcyclesales Posted February 4, 2013 Author #4 Posted February 4, 2013 i had a bike do that to me once and found it to be a kinked throttle cable. where was the kink and how did you find it??

Change in idle=leak found. COULD YOU BE A BIT MORE SPECIFIC I'M ONE OF THOSE GUYS THAT DOESN'T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT BUT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS VERY WELL . REMEMBER TO GET AT CARBS FUEL TANK AND AIR INTAKE HAS TO COME OFF AND TO GET THE AIR INTAKE OFF YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE FUEL AND VACUUM LINES SO HOW DO i GO ABOUT THIS?? EITHER TESTING??
CaptainJoe Posted February 4, 2013 #6 Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) if you haven't had your carbs apart bef0re you had this problem it's probably not a kinked or bound throttle cable... mine was after i rebuilt a set of carbs. sounds like dirty carbs or vacum leak. vacume leak: spray around one carb at a time with carb cleaner, if there is one the engine will slow down. never used ether but if in small enough doses????it would definately speed up...LOL Dirty carbs: seafoam works wonders on these bikes,.Especially when this ethanol fuel trashes them in a couple months if they sit. the varnish will ruin them. If your lucky, mix at twice the rate suggested on the can and run for at least 5 min... that way you'll have the solution in the carbs to sit overnight. then start up the next day, if the problem is still there gently tap on side of carb with a long shanked screwdriver. hopefully you'll dislodge whatevers in there. i'd also plan on changing the fuel filter. if not... you may have to take carbs apart and clean.... MiCarl Posted February 4, 2013 #7 Posted February 4, 2013 You've got to do it from the sides. Bike fully assembled and running.

Okay i did exactly as you instructed and the idle INCREASED a great deal when I sprayed 1 carb and just a little on another both front carbs
CaptainJoe Posted February 4, 2013 #9 Posted February 4, 2013 make sure it's not wiffing it at the air intake. a small amount goes a long way... If it at a specific carb, check for a loose boot clamp(Top of head), missing rubber terminator cap (inside head fins), or, a loose or cracked vacum hose(s). If its speeding up in only one or two places its pulling the vapor in thru the vacum and igniting. make sure you do the seafoam....at least twice a year also... regardless
