djh3 Posted February 4, 2013 #29 Posted February 4, 2013 I too am a recent buyer of a RSV. I bought mine in Jan of 2012. I put better than 10K on it last year(had 7400 on it). When I bought the bike it had the DUnlap E-3's on it. They rode fine and performed very well I thouhgt. They did get a bit noisey say the last 1/4 to half of tread life before changing. Especially in corners. It just has to do with the way the tire wears and the edgs of the groves "feather". I dont think there is any performance issue to worry about. At the time I was researching tires there was evidently a batch of Avons that had manufacturing problems. they were cracking at the bead area, and these were brand new tires so I ruled them out. I read up on the Michelin Commander II. I like the tread pattern and reviews. Only down side was there is no "direct" replacement for the RSV. You have to go to a slightly narrower tire in a 130. Its like less than a 1/4" inch width difference. I opted for that set of tires and am very happy with them. Shinko tires has also had pretty good reviews on other bikes as I could not find any on "heavy" touring bikes, mostly FJR, Mean streaks and other cruiser bikes, Oil I was using Mobil 1 in my Kawasaki, but my oil change intervals were also like 7500 miles. The RSV is about half that so at better than $10 a qt it makes it pretty expensive. Looked around here and most are running either Shell Rotella t6 (syn) or the regular Rotella both are JASMO spec oil which is what you need to have no matter what to keep from killing the clutches. I also run a Purolator 14610 filter. Its a little longer than the OEM size but fits and gives you a extra inch in length of filter area. My personal opnion would be to stay away from Fram. Enjoy the new scoot and read all the info you want here, for me its been well worth the $12 of admision.

MidlifeVenture Posted February 4, 2013 #32 Posted February 4, 2013 I've heard rumors about the 2nd Gen riders but we will have to wait til they get here to find out if they are true........ Quite like sailing my other passion it is about the enjoyment and comfort not the speed once we are on our bikes we are all ready where we need to be and do not need a destination to get off of it to enjoy.
SilvrT Posted February 5, 2013 #33 Posted February 5, 2013 I've heard rumors about the 2nd Gen riders but we will have to wait til they get here to find out if they are true........ That only goes to show that 1st genners need to get to where they are going faster coz they can't possibly enjoy riding their antiques any longer than absolutely necessary...
bongobobny Posted February 5, 2013 #34 Posted February 5, 2013 Yup!! Now you done opened a can of worms fer sure!!! Myself I prefer Dunlop E-3's, and for oil depends on the mileager on motor! Less than 25K use dino, my preference is diesel oil 15W45 Mobil Devlon, Delo, Shell. Over 25K OK to use synthetic, my favorite being Shell Rotella...
