SilvrT Posted February 3, 2013 #1 Posted February 3, 2013 ... or for anyone contemplating going darkside. Found this on a Wing forum. Some good technical info here. Be careful, your coffee will get cold reading it LOL http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/5-general-motorcycle-discussion-forum/400426-design-differences-between-car-motorcycle-rim-tire.html
Wade 2000 Posted February 3, 2013 #2 Posted February 3, 2013 Wow! I should have paid more attention in school. Went cross eyed about halfway through. That really shows the engineering and science behind the CT and MT designs. I'm not sure it will change any darksiders back but I'm definitely staying with the MT as its designed specifically for that application
ragtop69gs Posted February 3, 2013 #3 Posted February 3, 2013 Lot's of info to absorb there! Still, in spite of all that scientific data, why don't you ever hear of a darksider losing a bead seal during hard cornering ? Given the data presented you'd think it would be somewhat common for a CT to unseat when mounted to a MC wheel.
Barrycuda Posted February 3, 2013 #4 Posted February 3, 2013 wow... what a read. Can someone convert that to an audiobook?
Wade 2000 Posted February 3, 2013 #5 Posted February 3, 2013 I've read a lot of the Darksiders threads and posts and have seen quite a few on the trail. Is there any other benefit other than longer wear??
Pegasus1300 Posted February 4, 2013 #6 Posted February 4, 2013 According to darksiders better braking on the rear.
Wade 2000 Posted February 4, 2013 #7 Posted February 4, 2013 According to darksiders better braking on the rear. If I understand the friction part of the report that can't be right?? Really not trying to start anything I am just interested in information
Black wing Posted February 4, 2013 #8 Posted February 4, 2013 well in strait line breaking it would be better as the area of contact is greater. however in a corner it would be greatly reduced as the footprint would shrink untill you hit the side wall then you get a whole new issue as the side wall is not the same compound. i can see the appeal of darksiding on a sidecar rig but otherwise just seems like asking for trouble

Such as softer or harder compounds. That is if I'm reading correctly
