Snaggletooth Posted January 30, 2013 #1 Posted January 30, 2013 I get a lot of scam emails but this one is new to me. Even attached a form to fill out to reply back to them. How nice of them. (No I didn't open it) LOL! I'll bet that attachment is a doosey. At least they could get the date right. Lazy twits. Looking at addressing on it it looks like it was sent to about anybody with the name Michael in their email address. Prairiehammer Posted January 30, 2013 #2 Posted January 30, 2013 Mike, as you know it is bogus. http://sanangelo.bbb.org/article/Urgent-Scam-Alert-Beware-of-Fake-Complaint-E-mail-Claiming-to-be-from-Better-Business-Bureau-37660
meach Posted January 30, 2013 #3 Posted January 30, 2013 If you ask me the BBB is a scam unto itself. Their ratings mean nothing.
Snaggletooth Posted January 30, 2013 Author #4 Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) Oh yeah! There were so many red flags popping up when I got this one it cracked me up. But it was different from the usual garbage I get so I thought I'd post it. This stuff always chaps my hide. My parents were victims of fraud in a major way. That was back before it was an Internet sensation. They got hooked in through "offers" made thought the mail. It ended up costing them in excess of $330,000, or at least what we know of. It got so bad the USPS and the bank ended up doing fraud investigations. The sad part was both my parents suffered from Alzheimers. They had no idea what was happening. They knew they were losing money in major amounts but had no idea why. Sure, they admitted they were sending people checks and Money Orders on a weekly basis but they thought the money supposed to be "forwarded" to them was being "stolen" by me, my sister, the banks and even the the mailman. They never concidered they had given all the personal information to dozens of outside persons through all these "offers". They were helping people. Sad situation. The fraul investigations were able to show they were receiving literally hundreds of letters every month from scam operators. Once they had a hook in someboy they went all out to go after more. I hate to see people fall for this stuff. And this stuff isn't all that new. This started happening to my parents over 35 years ago. Just a new face on a demon. MiCarl Posted January 30, 2013 #5 Posted January 30, 2013 At least 35 years ago the scammers had to pop for postage or a phone call. Now they just send millions of emails at virtually no cost.
Freebird Posted January 30, 2013 #6 Posted January 30, 2013 I also got that one claiming to be from the BBB but a quick search proved it was a scam. I also received too others last week. One claimed that a group was applying to take over the domain name venturerider.org They claimed that I was not registered on a couple of Asian domain registries and that it was going to cause confusion for my "company". They assured me that they could take care of it for the right amount of money. The second was a reverse of the ones claiming that I had won millions of dollars. This new one claimed that a Mr. Somebody had filed papers claiming that he was my next of kin and that I had died in a car crash. He had submitted the proper paperwork and the banks were preparing to transfer 10 million dollars out of my account to him. LOL....good luck with that.
Wade 2000 Posted January 30, 2013 #7 Posted January 30, 2013 I received that one also. Being a Contractor I was tempted to open it but my intuition won out. I figured if a client had a problem with me I'd already know about it. There is something to be said for having good business practices:fatsmiley:
Flyinfool Posted January 31, 2013 #8 Posted January 31, 2013 Even if you still had a concern, just do not use the email links and contact the BBB directly. I often get legit emails from my bank and other places that look fishy, I still do not use links in any email, I just go direct to the source to be certain.
KarlS Posted January 31, 2013 #9 Posted January 31, 2013 I'm still waiting for my $25 million from the Nigerian Prince that died, they traced me down informing me that I was his last remaining relative. Now did I remember to send that $1500 processing fee?
