Guest Dave Rogge Posted January 24, 2013 #1 Posted January 24, 2013 Has anyone tried to refurbish the gold colored Yamaha emblems on a VR? I assume that new ones aren't available, and if they were, probably big bucks. Is there some way to paint the letters? Thanks
Pegasus1300 Posted January 24, 2013 #2 Posted January 24, 2013 They were originially plated and there are companies that can plate plastic but you would have to do a google search to find them.
MidlifeVenture Posted January 24, 2013 #3 Posted January 24, 2013 On my wing I used spray gold chrome paint then black model paint then clear coat took some time and a fine brush
Guest Swifty Posted January 25, 2013 #4 Posted January 25, 2013 On my wing I used spray gold chrome paint then black model paint then clear coat took some time and a fine brush How did you cover up the HONDA when you did the black? was it a ton work of taping off the letters? plus clear coat has never worked for me. But this is something I've wanted to do to the YAMAHA emblem under the windshield on my VR ever since I got the bike.
MidlifeVenture Posted January 25, 2013 #5 Posted January 25, 2013 I sprayed the entire emblem gold then brushed the black and used a tooth pick and a sharp pokey thing to dab paint in tight places then sprayed clear coat.
Pegasus1300 Posted January 26, 2013 #6 Posted January 26, 2013 Scott that is a very nice 'Wing.Is it an 1100 or a 1200?
MidlifeVenture Posted January 26, 2013 #7 Posted January 26, 2013 1981 GL1100 was my very first street bike traded here in for the Venture. Signed the papers the saturday before the banks crashed in 2008 wish I would have just kept it then. But now only 8 months and the Venture is mine free and clear there were some rough times in there when the Venture was close to the chopping block and if I still had the wing it would have went.
